Hi,
I'd like to ask all of you using tweedlewink wit your children, what would you say it has taught your little ones? I am trying to decode whether to shell out Ll that cash and their website makes a lot of claims, so, If you please, could you comment on the content presented and if you consider it a worthwhile program. Thanks so much,
Lizaa

I have TW and have brought my daughter to attend Shichida and I find that, a lot of materials presented in Shichida is similar to TW. So, if you have read Shichida books and believe in right brain education, that TW is worth it. They have compiled the materials and all , just have to show it once a day. But then as for the results, it is not very obvious like any other dvds like Leapfrog or YCCR where I can see her sounding out the phonics perfectly or singing Little Bo Peep. With TW, sometimes, I see things like, she look at a picture of an elephant and says, elephant, Nigeria. She recalled the part about culture, where they say, in Nigeria, you can find things like elephant, that sort of things. Sorry, I have not used TW long enough to see the obvious results. About TW, I used it initially with my old tv, and the the screen kept blinking. Background of the pictures of TW is white , so the refresh rate is slower and with old tv, it blinks so much, I was worried that it will affect my daughter's eyesight.

Please if you can mentioned at what age would you start with TW. I read their page and found out that it can be from newborns, infants and toddlers but maybe they will just listen to the DVD at first. At what age to you think they will start viewing the images shown and if you used it, at what age did you start?.

I started when my daughter was 2. I have to put in effort to make her watch TW. the part for visual tracking, for eye exercise, follow the flower,, i have to make my own sound effect.. and let her watch and she will make the sound effect and watch when the flower goes here and there.
sometimes, bounce her on my laps as they show the "flash cards" and all and the eye stimulation , when they show primary colour, i asked her, what colour, she will go, black, white, black .
i have to make it interesting, it is not like Leapfrog or Whistlefritz or YCCR, where the kids really like to watch. Basically it is flash cards in dvd format.

Thanks for your reply, reei.
I guess I'd like to hear more about results before paying 350 on DVDs. Anyone else had a positive or negative experience? Thanks

My son started watching TW when he was around 6 or 7 months. During that time he was so interested in it that he would watch the whole DVD containing 4lessons at a time. But after 3-4 months he lost complete interest in it. He refused to watch those DVDs. Even now if I play those DVDs, he is interested in watching only the affirmation section and nothing more. Sometimes he cries to change the DVDs.

But this is not the case with other DVDs like YBCR, YCCR or LR. He loves to watch those even now. I started all these DVDs around the same time. He now knows all the words in YBCR all DVDs, says even before the word appears and same with LR.

I have not seen him demonstrating any words through TW. May be it has long benefits but until now he has not shown any. Hope this helps.

wow.
so much for the negative. so what it teaches is words like the other programs? or is it a bunch of stuff, history etc? maybe that would be more difficult to demonstrate.
thanks for your post.

Hi

I purchased 10 DVDs of TW and to tell you the truth, I am not sure it was a good investment.  By far, the best investment was Brillkids, though YBCR is what started the entire interest in the first place.  I think the problems with the TW DVDs are that the way it is spoken gets irritating for a child after  awhile.  Even my daughter only loves the affirmation portions and hates everything else after that.  I have restarted using them as she is already going to kindergarten.  The best idea is to use a combination of all the methods but dont overuse one single method at a time.  So play TW after a few days of break.
I still wouldn't recommend spending all the money on TW alone.   Once the child can already read (thanks to BK), it becomes difficult to get the child to focus on TW.  The second difficult thing is that the DVD is divided into chapters.  They dont always like it.  Some kids want continuous programming.  That could be another problem.

The material of TW itself is very good and a very good combination of the Doman Schichida methods.  So there is really nothing wrong with them.  But they are better used for children really young than toddlers to be honest.  Thats when they want to watch the good ol' Walt Disney cartoons or somehting more interesting!
Hope this helps

Thanks so much for such a sincere reply. That's the direction that I was going in too. It seems like too much money for DVDs and like you said, it didn't look like it would capture the attention of my daughter all that well. What are you doing about math?
Thanks once more,
Liza

Hi Liza
I'm glad my comments were helpful.  I am still struggling with Math.   My daughter never really liked to do BK Math - so while I can still use it, she wont concentrate.  Another problem, and this is my own problem, is that I havent been able to upgrade my system.  Right now, I am considering sending her for Abacus classes or something to do with Vedic Math.  I hope to find a teacher who will be helpful for a child her age.  Early education is not much recognised in the Middle East.
Let me know if you have a better system to use.  Though honestly, Schichida is the best system.

I have just received Tweedlewink and have just started to show my 18 month old.  So far he seems to be enjoying it but will have to see his response later on.  I like the content but also think it was quite costly.  I was able to get the online course for free with the package purchase so have been going through it slowly, quite informative so far.  I wanted something that covers different subjects, not only reading and maths so that was the main reason for the purchase.  Hope it was the right choice.

It sounds like a fine product. Hopefully your child will absorb a lot of info from it. Unfortunately, it will take a long time for you to know.
Thanks for your reply,

@rd
He will benefit immensely as you have started young and also because he may not have already picked up quite a lot from other DVDs.  My daughter benefitted most by YBCR and BK.  But this is a good buy.  Just dont expect or push him for effects and dont test him - boys are generally slightly slower in picking up or responding than girls (when they are very little).
So sit back and enjoy while he absorbs all of it.

Indi thank you for your advice.  I hope we will get a lot out of Tweedlewink.  I also have YBCR and Wink to Learn Chinese and the Chinese songs DVD which he loves.  We are up to dvd3 in YBCR but he does not read the words.  I just keep showing them to my son as recommended and I introduce the néw DVD after each month.  He is not as excited to watch Tweedlewink but it could be because we just started and is not yet familiar with it.  I will enjoy the time we spend together.
