We are Thai and  speak Thai as mother tounge. I and my husband plan to teach our kids English as the second language(My husband will speak ENG to them - One parent one language) . Anyway, we are not native speaker and we are thinking about English DVD that help them to learn about the real accent. Do you think that DVD like bayby einstein or Brainy baby help? (Normally , i am not allow them to watch TV) Thanks in advance

No way would I recommend using baby Einstein for anything. They do not have much educational material in them. It is mostly music with toys moving around. They have been studied, and kids that have watched them are shown to have a smaller vocabulary. There are much better DVDs out there that actually teach language. Baby Einstein is more of a babysitting video. Please read this thread http://forum.brillkids.com/product-discussions-and-reviews/the-baby-einstein-videos/

Hi ing,
nhockaday is right.  Baby einstein videos have music and toys, and some abstract images.  I would recommend using Leapfrog Letter Factory for a good start, learning alphabets and letter sounds.  I have been using this for my son and he has picked up all the sounds and letters pretty fast.  They also have word factory, which I am yet to use.  Hope this helps.

Thanks you so much nhockaday for your opinion and your link above. It s really helpful.

Thanks anjie, I will try Leapfrog.

It is good if my kids can learn native accent from DVD. But I am afraid that TV is not good for kids. Kids can be overstimulated. Do I need to trade-off? Another way to expose my kids to the native speakers is to send them to international playgroup but it is too expensive for me.

Ok no more typing with the baby I just lost everything and I had a thesis going on here!!! oh well Short version  Try finding people at the park or a church that you go to the speak english. I am trying to teach my kids French and sign language and am having a great time with that since I only speak english... I have found the brainy baby French very good and my kids love it. Dont know about the english one though sorry. we do not however reccomend the leap frog movies with little reader as it really confused my daughter. They have a dvd videogame that is called little leaps that my kids love it is all educational and in 4 languages. english spanish french and german.  their toys and things are great but the movies were not impressive to me at all. We also started watching things together as a family in french if at all possible and that has been GREAT!! it really helps. Also you may want to look into hosting a foreign exchange student it is "free" in america you just give them a bed to sleep in and food to eat and they talk to your family in their native language if you ask them to. We had a great time with it.  Anyway hope that helps and have a great time Good luck.

I had the full set of baby Einstein-26DVD , they are only music the the toys keep on spinning around. and a few words once in a while. I only played them few times as I don't find them educational. As I am not sure if I want my son to stare at the screen and just looking at the toy spinning. It's a waste of money I must say.
Now I am using Your baby can read, Tweedle Wink, Baby Signing time. When are u coming to Singapore again? I can pass u one copy to see if your child like it. Before you come please pm me, will pass u my contact no.
And they have preview on their website. I think it's available at this forum also, under video gallery.

Hi ing,

We're not native english speakers too.  I saw before here in the forum about Gogo's Adventure in English.  YOu can download those videos from Youtube.  My toddler learned a lot of english words and sentences here.  He even imitated the words and sentences.

Thank you all for your input. (Thanks god! I love this website and people around here!!)

I agree with princessclem that talking with English native speaker is the best. I will give it a try. Exchange student sounds good. Not sure there is any in my country. Will check it out!

Dear luckymummy1307, I am very impressed in what you try to help me a lot not only in this topic. Karma to you (Actually, I dont know what the Karma is. Just know that it s good to GIVE ha ha   LOL ) I and my husband have no plan to go to SG. My husband's colleague, Singaporian, come to Thailand every week  but I think I will look at the sample in utube or in this forum first. Thanks for your generousity.
PS> Last time you told me to try LR lite version. Unfortunately, they are discontinued  Sad   Thanks anyway.

Thanks Jem Jem and ed too. I watch GOGO adventure from utube. it s quite good. Thanks for suggestions!

The last thing I would think Baby Einstein teaches is language.  It is definitely a babysitting DVD and when babies are watching that they are not interacting with anyone in any language -- there are very few words on those DVDs at all!

I like the Muzzy language DVDs (made by the BBC) to teach foreign languages.  If you want your baby to learn English, they can be set to teach English as well.  I think they now have a language learning DVD set that can be played in your choice of five languages.  Pricey, but worth it.

And of course, if you want your child to learn that language of music, I highly recommend the Trebellina DVD by the Cristofori Baby COmpany.   LOL

Brainy Baby in English are very nice.  They have lots of talking with many interesting facts.  They teach all kinds of things on their videos.
