Educational DVD & CD Master List

I am not an anti-TV or anti-screen time purist but I understand that some parents are, and that's okay for their families. I am however anti-BROADCAST TV for my family.

1) It's typically not educational, you have to *work* to find the good stuff. Even a lot of the psuedo-educational kids stuff on PBS is garbage IMHO.
2) Shows run one after the next, versus a DVD has a nice "end," reminding you and your children to turn it off and go do something more active
3) Adult shows on the background (even the news) expose my kids to concepts I am not ready to explain and they are not ready for, usually negative
4) They will walk away from "regular" TV with NOTHING. Other than a wasted half hour or longer. Educational DVDs teach them all kinds of great things!~
5) I do NOT want my kids being marketed to so young with aggressive commercials for toys and cereal.

Yes, I have read all the hype about no-TV before two and I will be doing an in-depth analysis of it soon and trying to find more studies & reasons behind the recommendation (I personally disregard the obesity concerns for MY family because I monitor my children's health, the ADHD/ADD type concerns are the ones I am far more interested in).  When I do, I will post it here. Until then, help me compile a list for families who are willing to "cut the cable" and stop showing their kids broadcast TV, but still want to use TV as a distraction or learning medium like most American families.

*I have no personal experience with these but have heard controversial things about if they are truly educational or not, or just that some of them are good but not all of them. Thoughts?

Leap Frog DVD's are pretty good too. I used the 3-combo pack with Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory and a math video.

And the Teach Me Tapes are not Entirely in the targeted language. A good chunk of the songs play in the target language and then in English. The books are only in the targeted language except for the parent potion
