SpellQuizzer
http://www.SpellQuizzer.com SpellQuizzer is a spelling software program that helps children with their spelling. It works by automating the process of learning how to spell words. The parent inputs the words they want the child to learn, and record their voice saying it. The software then plays back the recording, the child types the spelling and the software corrects him/her if necessary. Only 10 minutes a day is enough to practice and perfect the week's spelling list!
It also re-quizzes students on words they missed and provides an opportunity for customization and even incorporating fun ideas like the website suggests such as "recording the words in a funny voice".
This software is simple and does what it says, it makes practicing spelling a process that's a little more fun and much quicker.
When you open the program, tips appear on how to optimize your use of the program, how to adjust the mike and how to make the process more amusing. You can turn these off but I personally found them great! The program also recognizes both US and UK spelling, which is very versatile. Children can also input their own spelling lists without help from parents because the program has a spell check built in and the interface is very simple. You can see screenshots here:

There's also a record and playback button right on that screen so recording is a piece of cake! Included are also controls for adjusting the volume for the microphone and playback.
You can see a video demonstration here:

Another great feature is that lists can be exported and imported so the lists can be shared by users who know each other, such as siblings and home school families, instead of re-inventing the wheel. The website has some free downloadable spelling lists that users can import into SpellQuizzer at
