Well it's pretty new (2008) I've been given it from my sister when she was in England (only 2. part from 12 moths),
Flavio likes it much, it's simpatic, but there are not so many words (basic). You can switch off audio and with only classical music talking to your baby.
I don't speak english well so we needed something very sample to begin yes

I am also not impressed with bee bright though my daughter seems to like the sample video.

But Brainy Baby is good , I showed her those when she was around one year, though I have not used Baby Einstein for my daughter.

single mom of 4 yr old boy adopted from China

Hi, I just joined up tonight!

My son was adopted from china at 22 mos old, and of course spoke no English. We had a couple Baby Einstein dvds someone gave as a gift. He was not interested at ALL, and watching just one put me to sleep. I got rid of them.

We DO love baby signing time and signing time http://signingtime.com dvds. He can't get enough of them. They say the words VERY CLEARLY in English, along with the sign and an image, and then have children saying the word over and over while signing and showing the item or action. My son was understanding the english words in no time. He took a long time to speak intelligibly, and the signing itself was a great transitional communication device. Our speech therapist said it was a very good tool.
Also, here in Quebec, they speak both English and French, so he had two new languages to learn. I found that I could use the sign he knew (ie shoes) and then say the french word, while signing shoes, and he would understand the spoken french from the sign.

He learned all his colors from Signing Time dvds, lots of names of animals etc. He doesn’t sign hardly at all now at 3, but understands it well, and still watches the dvds all the time (we have all the first series, a few of the second series, and the Baby Signing Times which he loves as they have more songs).

Right now we are using Dora the Explorer in Mandarin to learn Chinese (me along with him)... so dvds can be an excellent addition to speaking with real people (we also have a native mandarin speaker come into our home once a week).

Cristofori, can you tell us more about the Muzzy videos you mention. I also buy a lot of things in English to my kids.. since we are neighbors to the US I can get some of that material, but I m imnterested in other languages... which I do not speak. I have Rosetta stone and Pimsleur, but they are for older kids, not for babies. Please tell me more about the videos you mention

If you go to amazon.com and do a search of words like "read dvd" "learn to read dvd" "phonics dvd" "sight words dvd" "sign language dvd" you will find a lot of dvds which link to other dvds, and most have parents reviews of their experiences with those dvds. Little Pims sell ESL English dvds for babies on there.
I check out YouTube videos typing words like read, phonics, counting, alphabet, letters, etc... then I try to locate the website of any authors I particularly like. (Let's stat smart looks good).
Baby Einstein is NOT chock full of speaking and neither is Baby Bumblebee. Brainy baby is full of speech. I recommend dvds and cds of english nursery rhymes...it's easy to remember words when they're sung, and nursery rhymes often are translated into other languages, so likely you'll know some in Thai that your child can learn in both languages.

And dont worry about sounding like a native English speaker!!!
It's such a widely spoken language all over the world there are so many different accents from people with English as their first language. Just in the UK alone, how many accents are there? HEAPS!! In the US they have various accents. Australia has one main accent, NZ has one main accent... but they are different to any other English speaking country. If you really want to have a particular accent, learn to speak like the Queen.  It's her language..she owns it.

I'm not sure about the English version, but we just ordered the Spanish version of Little Pim and my 19 month old absolutely LOVES it. I really love it too. It is so clear and easy to understand the new language that we are both picking up on words and phrases.  The great part too is that they show the text of most of the words they say so that you can get a clear picture of what the words look like, along with what they sound like and the picture of what they are. It is awesome. My kid also loves the animated Panda that comes on throughout the show. They also have an English version, Chinese, etc. Check out their site www.littlepim.com - I would recommend these 100% more than Baby Einstein.  They were done beautifully.

Actually, church songs are most often written in English, but translated into foreign languages for use in those churches and Sunday schools. So if you go to church try to find songs you might sing in Thai, in the English version.  And there are plenty of kids Christian songs out there, which are fun to sing even if you arent a Christian. Cant speak for other religions as I dont know much about them.
See if any kids dvds come with Thai as an alternative language to use so bub can listen in english and then in Thai.  Dora dvds seem to have a variety of languages. Or buy Thai versions of children's shows, and the English version.
