Saw these on Amazon and in ebay...has anyone tried them? They are quite pricey, and there are 15 in all for covering all sorts of phonics combinations.
Here's the description of one dvd, but no reviews on there at all... Has anyone had any experience with this set?
Program 13: The Cold Gold
Our story begins with an animated opening that introduces the viewer to READ-ALEE-DEED-ALEE (READ) and explains that he is on a journey to a land where people love to read. We find READ at home with his friends RADIOLA, BELLE and TOC, singing about shapes and which one is their favorite. They examine circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. When they finish singing, READ heads off to see Mr. Booker at his newsstand. Mr. Booker is putting up signs of various shapes to show customers what he has to sell: triangles for magazines, circles for books, rectangles for newspapers and squares for cards. XTRA appears with a story to share with READ. READ opens the newspaper and reads a story about an elf who lives up north where it is cold. Next, READ flies off to the Reading Room and joins a group of children who have gathered to hear some books read: Old Jack Fold and The TV Show. The books feature the sound-spelling patterns "old" and "ole". After the book is read, READ heads home. Along the way he encounters signs "in the real world" which he is able to read; for example: "sold" and "fishing pole". The program concludes with READ in bed thinking about his day and all he has learned. He falls asleep, a happy and better educated young dragon. Combining animation, puppetry, storytelling, songs and adventures, these programs captivate young viewers and encourage the love of reading. The Cold Gold features the letter "S" and includes the theme of "shapes". Kids will learn to recognize the letters "H", "C", F", "O", "P", "M", "S", and more plus the sounds associated with them, as well as identify and use the "old" and "ole" sound-spelling patterns; use these patterns to unlock words and participate in written language; and appreciate that there are many words made up of these patterns, i.e., "cold", "hold", "fold", "pole", "mole" and others!
An irresistible dragon and his enchanting friends present a refreshing, playful introduction to word recognition and reading readiness. Pre-K to Grade 2 15 Read-Alee-Deed-Alee titles help children master reading. Watch them all!
