Bible DVDset AND 10 books ($20 USD at Christian Book Distributors -
http://www.christianbook.com - exact link below)
I believe it was Teaching my Toddlers who mentioned this product last fall. Curious, myself, I checked into it and thought we may like it. Then, I noticed the price at CBD $20 for 10 DVDs AND 10 BOOKS! I ordered immediately and the product arrived in short time. In fact, if you do order from them, surf around their site before ordering - they have A LOT of good items for fractions of their regular retail price.
Anyway, on to the review.
As stated earlier, there are 10 DVDs. Each DVD has an accompanying hardcover book.
The books: The books are exactly the same as the DVD readings - word for word. They have too much text for my son to sit through at this point, but as he becomes familiar with the stories he will enjoy them at a later date. So these have been shelved for now.
The case: It is like a fold out "book" - unfolded it is about 2.5 x 0.5 feet. It is made of sturdy plastic-like paper. When it is unfolded you see the 10 DVD slots. On the back side is a very clear reference list. It is organized in chronological order - listing what story and what DVD it is on. For the most part the DVDs themselves are in order according to how the Bible is laid out. However, it is not a DVD 1, 2, 3 type layout (ie. The DVD titled “Jonah” seems to be a “catch-all” DVD – fitting in stories that don’t quite go with the general themes of the other DVDs.) If you want to teach the Bible in order you’ll LOVE the DVD’s reference list.
The DVDs: These are simple DVDs that have changing illustrations as the stories progress. Each story has a small handful of illustrations. It is NOT animated (at least the ones we’ve watched so far). It is a picture that has various parts highlighted. For instance, a picture of the nativity – while the story is told and speaks of Mary the screen will show Mary sitting on the hay, then when it talks about the star, the camera pans the scene going past Joseph, past the top of the stable and above it to the star. It is all one picture, but as certain parts are being spoken of they are made the focus of the screen shot. The words spoken are also on the screen. They don’t show up AS they are spoken (like in Readeez) but rather the entire sentence is shown at the same time. It appears that not all the DVDs are arranged the same, in that sometimes the sentence is just there, and others the sentence words are highlighted as they are spoken – drawing attention to the exact word that is being heard. Every story segment is followed by a song – lyrics shown as in the stories. The stories are short and flow well into the songs. The short segments work really well at keeping my son’s attention. He LOVES these DVDs. Well worth the $20!!!
