Well I can't speak for the new money program as I actually have an older version of the Touch Math money program. But even the older money program has been worth my time and has considerably been a huge help in teaching math concepts to my daughters.
I'm not sure if the new money program they have this year contains the same curriculum as what I have. But it teaches each coin one at a time. So you'll learn pennies first, then nickels , then dimes , etc. Of course you can start with whatever you want to use with him.
I know I just recently started to incorporate some money concepts with my 4yr old and it seems to have helped her more then when I just used the coins. The same happened with my 3rd daughter. We went over playing with money and coins but it just didn't sink in until we started using the Touch Math money for her.
Of course you can play games like ' Store' and so forth but honestly the worksheets seem to cement the concept in. Of course not all children learn the same but it was really helpful. I think if you have kids that like workbooks/worksheets then you can't go wrong with the Touch Math money.
Plus it incorporates their senses of sight, hearing ,and touching. Honestly I think if someone taught me how to count money the way the Touch Math program did. I don't think I would have struggled with math so much as a kid. I can say my 3rd daughter went into 1st grade very confident in this area and she hasn't had a problem at all. Actually math is her favorite subject.
If the program itself is to much they do have worksheets that you can buy and download off your computer :
http://www.touchmath.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=WYT.welcome&page=DownloadableProductJust click on one of the levels and scroll down to money. Maybe that would be more economical since you are going to use Jones Genius.
I'm not to familiar with JG but the programs look to be a bit similar and I don't think you would have any problems combining the two, but then maybe someone who is more familiar with that can chime in.
Other then that we really enjoy Touch Math and anything they've put out so far has been very successful in our home.
