Teletubbies?

My in-laws keep on talking about Teletubbies and want to introduce this program to my girl. I took a look at the short episod and it looked similar to Baby Einstein programs,-- very slow, using baby talk ( which I am not interested in introducing, since it slows down baby's development) and almost like it expects toddler viewers to act slower and more childish then they are capable of.

But that was just my impression from a short glans at a couple of the episodes. I would like to hear if you have any information or opinions on that.

For me personally it seem not worth the precious time wasting on, especially since I do not want to have too much TV time for my girl, and we already using good educational programs in 3 languages. But teletubbies looked not just like an unnecessary "filler" program, but the one that actually can slow down the development through lowering child's expectations of his/her abilities.

What do you think?

I agree totally. The topic of teletubbies has come up a few times for us. My wife and I have agreed to not show our son this program as the characters speak gibberish and not real words. There are so many great early learning programs out there!

I agree! Teletubbies is not great, the characters don't speak real English and therefore I don't see a lot of value in the program. Is there any chance you could get your mum to show any educational programs? I know this is a tough one to bring up! I know that when my mum is babysitting BC the TV is on most of the day in the background and this bothers me but I don't think it is worth commenting on for me at this stage. I'd rather choose my battles wisely (if there needs to be any that is!) I just make a concerted effort not to have too much TV on at home (and definitely nothing other than education programs) and no TV on in the background when we're playing. At the end of the day, if it isn't worth the argument, I don't think that the occasional episode of teletubbies will hard your child! (although I'm sure some other mums would disagree!)

Well, we do not have TV ever running in the house with the children present, and yes our in-laws would respect our preferences as well, and since I have never even heard of Teletubbies before I just wanted some input, it is good to know what others think. It will be no problem for us to not have it.

We do quite a bit of good educational programs and there is no need for us to have anything more on TV, unless it is something really really good

I forbid Teletubbies and In the Night Garden in my home. They are awful and in my option an insult to a childs intelligence. But that is just my option...

Looks like we are lucky as it has been translated to our language without baby talk. They don't speak a lot but at least are using real words. My baby loves those characters. She calls them all Lala

. She carries teletubbie toys everywhere and her eyes shines when she sees them.We don't watch them often-maybe once in two weeks and interact a lot.
