Leapfrog's Numbers Ahoy - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

Hi All,

Two days ago I excitedly came home the Leapfrog DVD - Numbers Ahoy.  It was $10 - good deal, or so I thought. 

After watching it with my son, it quickly became apparent that I had overpaid.  I was going on how wonderful Letter Factory, Talking Words & Word Caper (complex words) were but this math one is a huge disappointment.  It has such a minute amount of actual numbers or math concepts that you have to watch for it or you'll miss it.  If you're looking for something fun, sure, it might be okay, but if you're going to let them watch mind numbing shows why not save your money and let them watch (gasp) Sponge Bob???  ...is that even on anymore?   

Anyway...these are just my thoughts and yours may differ, but if you're used to the Leapfrog quality of the three reading DVDs I mentioned this is not in the same category.  Not by a long shot.

That $10 could have bought me at least two fancy coffees at Starbucks!!!!

EDIT:  Sorry, this was more of a rant than a review.  I will make myself watch it a second time and then write something with more detail.

Kizudo, review does not have to be "picture perfect"    Understand your disappointment! I was actually about to buy it, so so happy that you posted it. Well, just to say I always appreciate your reviews and opinions, as I am sure many others! Thank you!

Kizudo - I totally agree with you! I bought it thinking it would be a nice relaxing way to reinforce some math for my sons and was utterly disappointed that it contained so little. Even my younger son knows more than they showed!

I believe thre was some change in the company after the 4 videos:Letter factory, talking words, code word caper and math factory. All of the other ones have much inferior quality and the characters look different. I also believe that leap and lilly are now Tad's younger twin siblings. If you are looking for a good math video from that series stick with Math factory. It has a lot of one to one correspondence, addition, subtraction, counting by ones and tens, etc...

I do not have code word caper, so as you've mentioned it is good and worth getting?

Yes, I think Code Word Caper is good.  If your child is ready for either introduction or review of the silent E rule (a machine that removes their voice), Two Vowels "Go Walking" (the first one says it's name - like in "gain" or "toast"), and H digraphs  (sh, ch, th).  In this dvd Mr Websley accidentally gets sucked into the Silent E Machine and looses his voice.  The frogs need to solve three clues (learning each of the three skills mentioned above) to gain access to the secret chamber where the Silent E voices are kept and where the "re-voicer" machine is.
