Using Titzer DVD method

I have a question and would like to hear your input.

My baby is 16-months old, almost 17 months, and I have him on the Titzer method.  He is on the second DVD, and he is learning a lot.  He has started interacting a lot with the DVD.  A friend of mine gave me the videos, so I didn't have the word cards.  Instead, I bought a set of flash cards from Monki See Monki Doo, and I review the body parts with him whenever I can.

He watches the video every day with my mom, twice a day, but I can only show him the cards a couple of times a day from Thursday through Sunday, because I spend more time with him on those days (I work the other days).  I haven't been able to get my mom to show him the cards on the other days, but she gladly watches the video with him and helps him act everything out that goes on in the video.  She also takes him to storytime at the library once a week.

I have a question.  Is it enough to only show the cards 4 days out of 7?  Has anybody else seen results from a similar situation?

Any comments / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's fine. You should only do what you are able to do and not feel bad about not doing more. You are doing more than a lot of parents do. And it's great that your mom is active in educating your baby. My mom won't do that for mine  .

Just do what you can, make it fun, and know that everything you do is helping your baby.

I'm sure that is enough, we barely do the word cards at all because my baby isn't into it really.  He gets frustrated so I don't bother, sometimes we use the books though, maybe 1-2 times a day.  Can you purchase the books and have your mom read some of the books with him?

Hello Kappa, I can certainly understand how your baby doesn't like the word cards.  I show them when my baby is eating because that's the only time I can get him to focus and not run around (because he's tied up in the high chair).  We read books to him yes, and he asks us to point stuff out in the books for him (in his own baby language).  Most of the time, I read books to him, because my mom says that she's really busy while she cares for him.

Perhaps this weekend I'll go to the library and get some books for him.

Nhock, thank you for your support.  I guess that you always want to do as much as possible, but it's tough when you're working.  I wish I could do more, there's just not enough time in the day.

I have to agree that the DVDs are generally enough.  In my case, my mom is actually so active, she even tried showing baby the flashcards and even some pictures - mostly downloaded from brillkids. But my daughter just wasnt interested.  Like every child is different, my daughter is VERY SLOWLY BUT SURELY taking to books.  There is this thing about children.  In the first 3 / 5 years I think they change every week and then every month and then every alternative month.  Initially, she was changing every week.  She hated watching the Titzer DVDs and would only watch the nursery rhymes.  Now, she loves Brilliant Baby, YBCR, Brainy Baby - every one of them and almost all of them are a repetition of what is taught in the other - honestly 2 + 2 = 4 cant be taught any other way right - exactly the same.

Essentially, the repetition works wonders.  At 18 months, she knows her alphabet, her phonics and more especially her numerals 1 - 100. I am taking it quite slow in comparison since I really dont intend creating a "genius".  I'd much rather that she ENJOYS learning more than thinks its meant for her to shine.

The only sad truth is I barely have time for her and feel that I teach with more effect than my mum coz mum cant really hop around like a rabbit (to show her what a rabbit does) or jump like a kangaroo.  The only point is - you must spend QUALITY time with your baby and make LEARNING FUN.  That is the secret and just leave the rest for her to learn at HER speed.
