Actually the Lyric Language videos have been around for a long time (they were on VHS before) and seems to have been reproduced/repackaged into a DVD/CD combo. I have borrowed the French and Spanish ones from our library. Basically, it is like a music video of about 20 songs where kids sing each line alternately between English and the target language. For example, "I love to go to the zoo - J'aime aller au zoo..." and so on and so forth. I don't really like them all that much since there is hardly any teaching going on at all; I guess the idea is to learn the target language through songs. Also, the teaching is not done through immersion, which I happen to be a big believer of, especially for teaching babies and young children.
For Spanish, both my daughter and I love Whistlefritz. We have all 3 volumes and she has learned so much from them, especially taking into consideration that no one speaks Spanish in our household. We also really like Little Pim for both Spanish and French. One recent day, out of the blue, my 21 month old told me, "Mama, I want to eat banana, xiang jiao, platano!" She must have thought that if she told me that she wanted a banana in English, Chinese, and Spanish that I would know how much she wanted one!
. I think she learned platano from Little Pim. By the way, Little Pim recently came out with vols 4-6 in Spanish, French, and Chinese, which we are waiting excitedly for to be delivered. We also have Muzzy in 5 languages, but for now, it seems that the storyline is still beyond her and she has not exhibited much interest in it. It seems to be geared towards young children rather than babies and toddlers. Maybe in a year or so... Muzzy, Little Pim, and Whistlefritz all teach by immersion and not translation.
