Your Child Can Read

This week I started showing my son the "Your Child Can Read" Program.
It is AMAZING. Well atleast Vol1 is. He requests to watch it, which is nice because YBCR was like pulling teeth as he got older. He actually requests this video over Tweedlewinks, which is AMAZING if you know how much my son loves TW.
They get the child to interact by playing word cames, they offer two chooses and ask which one says "..." Lots of fun songs and such.
I hope my son is absorbing all of it. He seems to watch very closely and answers the questions and repeats the word when the dvd asks him too.
So far we are loving it...
Anyone else using this program? How do you like it?

Waterdreamer, you are from Manitoba, correct?  Did you order on-line or did you find them at Costco? 

If you ordered on-line do you have to pay a border crossing fee?  2 years ago when I ordered the YBCR I paid over $60 to some company that processed them at the border - that was in addition to the shipping and the U.S. Exchange rate.  The $199 YBCR package quickly became a LOT more expensive than I was anticipating.  I have been reluctant to buy from them on-line  again because of the hidden border charges and extra shipping charges.

I bought mine online.  The set of 5 yCCR cost us$99.99 and shipping within the us was us $8.25, so that totalled  us$112.23.  It cost me another us$13 to ship it to singapore via our local postal service (which has a service from the usa).  so the whole set cost us$125.23 overall.

the full dvd set for YBCR costs only S$99(us$66?)  in singapore, and i didn't even buy the dvd set when my son was a baby - i'd bought the vcd set which was S$59.  But well, yCcr is not available here yet. 

In any case, it is a good set of videos.  my son, now 22months does like it.  And yeah, it's refreshing to have videos that don't look as old as YBCR. haha.

Sorry but what does ybcr stand for? And isn't LR enough to help and a one year read alone or do I need to be showing him doman flashcards and other programs too?  I'm confused as right now Ive been showing my son LR and LM since he was 9 months and now he is 15 months old at least twice a day for 6 days a week. We did try doman flash cards but ge seemed bored and prefers all the interactive PC style of learning. I also frequently dhow him some PPT of more words with pictures but is this enough???  How and when will I know or expect results?  Thanks.

Wht is the difference between You Baby Can read and Your Child can read.
Are they form the same supplier?
I googled Your Child can read and it took me to Your Baby can Read.

Is there a web page that can give me more information?

Hi! Yes it is the same company as YBCR. It's like the next step. They go more into phonics. And they have improved alot since developing YBCR.
I have trouble getting to the actual link. YBCR website has turned into a read infomercial

Do you think a child can start with Your Child can Read without passing by Your Baby can read?
My grandson is 3 year 6 month so Your Baby is not for him.

I wouldn't just write off YBCR because your grandson is over Three. The actual age on the package is up to Five years.

Thank waterdreamer, I will look more into it. I read somewhere that it was too slow.
Think I have to give it a try but certainly Your Child Can read has more future use.

If you do not want to pay the duty fees have your parcel sent by US Postal service / Canada Post, rather than by a courier.  It takes a few days longer, but Canada Post uses their customs agents, so you do not get charged.  So far I have never had to pay by having my parcels shipped this way. I always pay when they go by courier.

My son was not intrested in YBCR when i first showed him in 18 months,he wud either move away or ask to play his fav cds like rhymes or brainy baby.He is 2yrs 9 months now ..i am thinking of giving another shot with Your Child can read for toddlers,is it anyway different from ybcr.Has anyone used for kids more then 2.5yrs old?

Hi Ruby,

Your CHILD Can Read is COMPLETELY different from YBCR.  It is definitely more entertaining as it it as mini segments of various topics/themes...there's poetry, word families, stories, songs...  YBCR is a very good start and I'm so glad I got it, but I'm finding that YCCR is still a bit advanced for my monkey boy.  He loves the stories, songs and poetry, but he's not ready for word families yet.  I think it would be a good investment for you, but I would recommend trying YBCR again first...especially if he hasn't seen them for a while...and then moving over to YCCR.
