Hello most esteemed forum members!
I'm hoping that some of you mommies and daddies have had the same experience as I am right now and have figured out a way to get past this obstacle. I'm really looking for some advice as my PM to Wennie wasn't responded to. I'm including a few more details for you.
The situation: When I put in the Tweedlewink DVDs my son (2.5 years old) begins to scream (a mild term, actually). He runs to the tv and starts slapping the screen crying "Off, Mommy, Off!" "Off, NOW!!!" He immediately begins to cry and if I don't respond quickly to his request his volume increases and his self-control is less than stellar. He goes from a very calm and peaceful (likeable and happy) state to frantic and hysterical in seconds. SECONDS. To say that he "hates" it would be almost adequate.
Various tactics I've tried:
- announcing a few minutes ahead that we're going to watch it
- holding him on my lap before it has time to show up on the screen
- telling him he doesn't "have" to watch or listen, that Mommy wants to see it
- having snacks available
- watching when Daddy can join us
- of course, waiting for a calm and happy moment
Has this happened to any of you? If so, what did you do to change the response?
