I ran to the post Office today, ripped open my box and...voila.. there it was. Excitedly popping the DVD into the DVD player, and my little baby girl bouncing up and down, waiting for the tweedwink music to come on.

Then the Little Pim bear appeared.. "bonjour"... she was still excited.... no tweedlewink music, but a cute bear which she loved! But then.... we were both disappointed.

I thought Little Pim was Right Brain??? HUH??? It's SOOOO slow! SNORE AWAY!!!! If your baby is used to the wonderful right brain speed of Tweedlwink, then Little Pim just does not make the cut of a right brain lesson.

In addition, the flash cards are confusing. You see a bear, and nothing is pointed out on the card, and on the back it says "pied", "foot". HUH? Then there is a bear with a bag and your child must learn bear +bag is actually just a bag? The right brain way says do not put anything in the image to make it confusing for them to decipher.

Sad, disappointed. I can't imagine someone who is used to the speed of right brain learning could enjoy this product?

So, that out the window... who can recommend a REAL right brain foreign language DVD series?

Do they advertise it at Right Brain?  I can't say that I recall that.  We have Little Pim and it's right along the lines of the way Your Baby Can Read.  No faster, no slower, no more "clear/defined" in its images.

We don't have TW and my son still loves what he calls "Cuddly Bear"...although his attention is starting to dwindle now after a few months.  By the way, we didn't get the flashcards - just DVDs 1-3.

Hi Kizudo

No, they don't advertise it as Right Brain. But the short video which they have on their website seems faster and cuter than the rest ofthe video. I think if you don'[t see TW first, and you have little Pim and YBCR then that's what the kids are used to. I just love the Little Reader and Little Maths and TweedleWink products as they are TRUE right brain products, which is what hwlps your children maximise their window of opportunity for learning for ages 0-6. I thought that if the products were offered on this forum, then they would be aligned with KL's wonderful learning philosophies and teaching methods (flashing the images quickly).

That is unfortunate.  I hate spending money and realizing I've wasted it.  Do you think your daughter will enjoy it after a few more showings?  You may want to try it until you find what you're looking for.  (By the way, it appears that Little French will be on it's way shortly as KL was looking for some testers a while back).

Other than that, I think that if you advertized it here, you'd be able to get a buyer.  Even if it's not RB, it's still a good dvd series and much better than giving your child basic cartoons/dvds to watch.  I mean, many of us have shown our kids the Leapfrog dvds and they are certainly not RB, but I swear that they cemented my son's knowledge of letter sounds and I'm glad I found them.  So, I think you could sell them here without a problem.

Also, as for what gets advertized here by "members" - there are several members who are also creators.  I've seen Julia Pimsleur Levine write here (Little Pim), Krista G. (Monki See) and hmmm...there was one other that's escaping me now...  All good (or even GREAT)products, but not necessarily in the Right Brain category.

Rapid flashing only works with words, couplets etc.
I think it's also important for the child to see real kids, for example, playing, and hearing 'play' 'they are playing', 'they are playing soccer'. This is how babies learn their first language, and it's very effective.

I usually show my child some rapid right brain program in the morning, and let her relax watching a cute little panda in the afternoon  LOL . You know, it's thanks to little pim that she started saying her first chinese words, out of the blue (i'm not a speaker and no-one she knows is)

We use LP along with LR, and tweedlewinks. My son loves LP just as much as TW and has started counting in French after only watching them for 2 weeks. I will say it did take him a day or two to get use to the pace but after that he loved it. He also likes to play with LP on my iPhone.

I totally understand the complaint.  most foreign language DVDs are slow  Sad
what would be great is if you could replace all of the words in LR with a language of your choice and then take advantage of the pictures and video already in the program.  you would just need to have someone change the audio.  is this possible instead of creating a whole new download just use some of the material that is already in the program and just add words/audio in a different language?
someone tell me! thanks

Yes you can use the existing categories from the Little Reader curriculum. You export the category that you wish to change then import it back into Little Reader. When you go to import it, you need to rename the category. I asked this question only a couple of weeks ago. Click on my user name and it will take you to the full instructions KL gave me when I asked about it,

You're all absolutely right, and It's not fair to slate a product that does not purport to be Right Brain.

So I change the name of the subject to...Little Pim.. getting used to it!

Here's the response:

Right now you cannot create new course items under the Courses and cannot edit the course lessons.

However, you can duplicate and edit the Categories that are used in the course lessons.

WARNING: Do not edit the original Categories and especially the words, otherwise the course lessons may not work!

To duplicate, first export all the Categories. You can select multiple items using the shift and ctrl keys and export all of it as 1 .cat file.

Then import it again, and when importing, access the advanced options to change Category and Word name conflicts resolution option to RENAME.

After that, all CAtegories and Word files will have a duplicate with a -1 added to the end of the name. You can now edit these however you want.

If you want to set up something similar to a course, you use use the Playlists feature.

Another thing I did accidentally but don't know how I did it - I now have a library of over 3,000 images from Little Reader. I think I opened up my media library on the computer and it automatically loaded it up on my computer!!!!!

Yes, happened to me as well!

Thanks for sharing the instructions. Eager to translate some of the LR into German! Does anybody translate into Spanish and is interested in my German?

On the subject of Little Pim - I am also disappointed in the product. The Russian DVD set is transliterated!!! So, instead of words appering in Russian letters, they are written in English letters. For instance, "water" is written as "voda". Ouch! I was blown away when I saw it. I can't show it to my twins because it will just confuse them, and it's soooo ugly and painful to watch for someone who actually can read in Russian.

I called them, and they said that they did this because they wanted parents who don't know the language to be able to read Russian words. What a terrible idea! This is supposed to be immersion program. In any case, some transliterations are matter of interpretation. If I had to transliterate "water" for instance, I'd spell it as "voda" instead of "vada". In any case, this is a total deal breaker for me. I bought two matching DVD sets trying to teach my twins to read in Russian and English, and I think showing a transliterated material will do more damage than good, even if they do pick up a few more spoken words.

I wish Little Pim would made it clear on the order page or the page with the information about the Russian set, but there is no mention of this anywhere on their web site. Unless you go and check YouTube video specifically in Russian (and I checked only English of course before buying), you'd have no idea. I hope I can return the DVDs, but I'll likely lose $30 I spent to buy Mamapedia coupons and about $15 in shipping. Total loss of $45. So sad. I would've never ever bought the DVDs if I had any idea they were transliterated.  So be warned.

Thank you for hands up Timandsveta! That is definitely a very bad idea, and I am sad to hear about that. In fact I was about to get Russian set myself, so I am happy I did not. I was very pleased with their Mandarin version, so was hoping for something like that in Russian. Transliteration is not something that would be accepted by any russian speaking parent IMO....
