Parents,

Are there flashcards that you have bought in amazon useful for very little babies? I am printing the ones that I have found here as well.

I have been looking at the flash cards of little reader. Besides, the size is excellent for a little baby. I can do it little by little. Now I am considering Food flash cards. Thanks Brillkids. I can save a little more. Better!!! There are so many things to see here... My God!!! yes  yes

I think that they are enough. My husband could print them in his job. The problem is that would be in black and white. I suppose that the results wouldn´t be the same. blush Do you print your flashcards in black and white or in colour?

I tend to make my own. I have some from shops that are wonderful but mostly i find them too small or rather inaccurate. I don't like to show babies cartoon images for object either. I will show cartoon images to children who have already seen the object in real life ( so maybe from about age 3) but only as a means to hold their interest. I will always favour the real image.
I also print most word cards ( not all) in the same font my children ( and my preschool kids) will be learning at school. Because I leave the flashcards where the kids can get them to try copying the words themselves. The ones I leave in reach are laminated, or easy to reprint cheaply.
I always print in colour, I think quality is important. I print word on one side and picture on the other. All my cards are A4 size as I use them with a group of children.  It used to cost me a fortune but now I can refill my ink cartrages I can print a ridiculous amount and laminate them much cheaper than i can buy them and ship them to Australia. Making flash cards is time consuming!  yes
For excellent purchased flashcards you want the gentle revolutions flashcards. They do go on sale at times and someone will mention it when they do here on the forum, or get on their mailing list.
Do check around for printing quotes. I can get LR flashcards printed on photo paper in a nice size for 9c but that is only one side, I have to write or glue o the word on the other side. If you only want word cards this would be very durable option. If you are going to make lots of flash adds pick a size and system that is cheap enough o continue with long term or you will end up with  many different sizes, harder to store and sort.

 smile Hi Mandabplus,

I love flashcards!!! I have a set of Eli. I had to laminate them in order to be able to work with them. They are in German. I have my own flashcards. I look them on images and print them. I am doing them in colour as well. I agree. Quality is important. My husband could print them in his job, but it is not the same. Now I want to collect the flashcards of LR with the words in English. I am going to spend some money, but I think that my daughter will be more motivated with the different colours that appear in them.
I think that showing significative objects or concepts is something important. For this reason, I have taken into account what she already knows.
I am going to look for the flashcards that you have named in your post. But I think that I should spend my money in DVDs instead, such as babysit. I have seen the website, and babysit is in my country, in Barcelona. It is a pity that they lack of German DVDs. I am considering the possibility to teach my little sunshine both Languages, English and German before going to the school. There is a very good school, a little far from my house, Deutsche Schule. The level of both languages is high. Here only few people speak German and I think that learning German would be a very good option. Many German people visit my island. I would teach her both languages. First, she would go to a state Kindergarten and later, Deutsche Schule. If she lacks of level she would be not admited. I have forgotten a lot. I want to begin to teach her, perhaps in 6 months. I had a good level. What a pity!!! unsure

According to you, is it better the same size for all my flashcards?

I keep mine the same size where possible. Purely for ease of use and storage. It is easy to end up with a huge collecton of flashcards and if you are making them yourself it is best to stick to one size. You will find storing them easier if they line up well. I also find it easy to flash throu 20x A4 size cards but harder if they are bigger. If they need to be A3 ( complete periodic table or entire alphabet) then they become a poster in my opinion. we used some smaller ones also, but they do get lost and I use them for multiple kids so bigger is best for me. The size you choose doesn't matter if you can see yourself finding somewhere to keep them all easily. Especially if you are planning more children. I just think it's important to consider it up front.
German resources arnt too hard to find. You should be fine teaching German. At least as far a vocabulary goes. For sentence structure and fluency you may need a playgroup or German friend. Your best option would be to speak to your child in German all the time, leaving English to dad and others. That way your fluency will improve and she will learn both languages simultaneously.

Ok Mandabplus, generally the same size. I have different sizes but it is true that it is easier work with flashcards with the same size. I have never used A3. Perhaps one day. When? The day that I want to work with phonics. It is not so far.

As far as German, I know it. The thing is that I have five years in a good Sprachschule. However, I hardly ever use German. That is a problem. I know that if I teach my baby girl with a programme similar to LR, the problem will be solved, at least in part. There are many people here who have no idea of the language they teach and the results are not so bad. My husband is always saying to me that I have to do something in order not to forget it... Now, with my baby, things are not so easy. I am looking for internet some interactive sites. I have a lot of German flashcards and book. Now I have to find time.I wish I had not stopped with my German teacher who made me spoke...
