Showing Wink-to-Learn to a 3 month old - review

Hi - after my initial enthusiasm I have to give an update on Wink To Learn.  My 3 month old loves watching tv.  I think she's attracted to light coming from the screen and the changing colours and brightness of the picture.  However she is disinterested in watching Wink-to-Learn ... I've tried showing it to her after watching a bit of TV (she is engrossed by normal content and then as soon as lesson 1 comes up she starts looking elsewhere) and  I've tried showing it to her when she's not watched any tv (apparently the tv remote control is more interesting than Wink to Learn!).

I can only hope that she is passively getting something out of being exposed to a native speaker speaking Mandarin!  On a more positive note I am pretty confident I can recite the animals in order of their appearance on the DVD.

It's only 4 minutes a day so I'll keep persisting ...

Has anyone else had any other experiences with their kids?

Hi, I havent used the WINK to learn program but have been exposing my twins to Baby Signing
Time, Signing Time and latey Tweedlewink series. I found that they are more receptive to the Signing Time program and are not interested in Tweedlewink at all. I managed to download Leap frog Letter Factory recently and have been playing it for my twins every time I needed some time away to prepare meals or doing my chores. I found that programs with songs and colourful animations are able to retain my kids attention than anything else. Hence I totally swear by the Signing Time program.

Sophia loves the tv to. I have also found that Sophia is bored with wink-to-learn and it is a struggle to get her to watch it over YBCR. Sophia is happy to watch WTL if it is on high speed right brain training. Which i don't mind. I have found that Sophia is most likely to watch WTL if she has just woken up or is going to bed where she is in a relatively relaxed state.

I think she enjoys YBCR more because it is interactive and WTL is certainly just sit and take it in. Your baby might also have already taken in the information and is awaiting the next lesson. Schichida says that the right brain doesn't need to see the information over and over again as the right brain can record things easily and quickly. Try giving your dvd the right brain lesson and see if that holds bubbie's attention.

If she still continues to to look away maybe stop the dvd for a couple of days and normal television, then go back to the dvd. When your baby realises that this is all she will get to watch it may help towards gaining her attention. Dr Titzer does state not to give or a very limited amount 'normal tv' as kids soon prefer that over educational videos.

Also, I am much more successful getting my baby to watch the videos at night with the lights off and the TV on.  They will watch because it is the only thing they can see in the room.  Also, sometimes he falls asleep, which means I don't have to be kicked in the stomach for 30 min while he nurses to sleep.  And I agree with the above, it is hard to concentrate on educational dvds especially if you let your child watch any fast paced kid's cartoons.  Also, this is just my personal opinion but I believe in waiting until 6 months to start using dvds, LR and other products.
