Hello - I was wondering if any one has ordered tuning forks from Right Brain Kids?  Do you know if they mail to Australia?  I noticed that they mail in the Asia region, which Australia sometimes counts as part of, and other times doesnt.  I tried emailing their support address to ask them, and also ask about if it's possible to get a replacement for a broken DVD (it split in half when I was taking it of its case!!) - I think I must've emailed close to 2 months ago with ZERO response.

Hi

Firstly, let me confirm that they  mail to Australia. I will check with Wennie. Tuning forks are AWESOME, and the tuning forks they use (Walker) are excellent.

I will check with Wennie and get back to you about the support ticket. maybe something went wrong?

Thanks Sarah108.  I actually pressed the button in the middle of the DVD box really hard to get it to come out.  It was as if the middle button was jammed .... I hadn't had the problem with any of my other Wink to Learn DVDs.  Such a shame cause they are expensive when you add P&H to the cost of the DVD.  I don't know why customer support didn't answer back.  I will try the email you've supplied.
Cheers

Might be a dumb question but what is the application of the tuning forks in early learning? I'm an audiologist so this has certainly piqued my interested!

I emailed Wennie and told her that nobody got back to you on the help forum and I am waiting for a response.

Aussiemomofone - Tuning forks are used for perfect pitch. In addition, they are used to help your child tune into different languages from an early age, and improve the auditory pathway.

Thanks Sarah, so did you use them to create the tone and then get your child to sing in that pitch? Do the tuning forks come in a set of different pitches? Well done on introducing music this way!

Hi! The set comes with with one full octave plus three octaves of "c" So you tap the fork on your knee, and then gently move the fork over from one ear over their head, to the other ear. When they are little, they would not be able to sing back, but you can also let them just listen initially to the sound.

When they are older, they can sing back - but only if they want to. Right brain education stresses not "testing" the child. So you could start by singing it yourself (if you have a good pitch) and then when they are comortable and ready, they will naturally sing along. It's all about making it the least stressful, most fun way of learning.

Hi, mtb999:

I am so sorry that you did not get answer from our support team. Do you remember your ticket number? I have been searching for any unanswered tickets, but I was not able to locate your ticket. Anyway, I am grateful that Sarah contacted me and give me this link.

Thanks, Sarah. smile

Yes, we do ship tuning fork to Australia.

I am sorry that the DVD was broken. We used to have DVD case that does not have strong hold on the disk and then we got complaints that the disk got loose and got scratched during the shipping, so we changed to "premium" DVD case. However, we then have different kind of problem by not able to get the disk out easily.

We used to put a yellow sheet inside the DVD to caution customer not to use force when taken the DVD out.

Now we make sure our DVD is packed in a different case that is between these two.

I can offer you half price for your replacement DVD.

By the way, DVD 9 is now available with special discount. The emails will be sent out in a day or two. So if you want to order DVD9, we can ship them together. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wennie

Hi, AussieMumofOne:

To answer your question on Tuning fork, I took the following from our manual and hope this helps!

How tuning forks help children hear better

When we added tuning forks to our repertoire, little did we know that they could do so much.  According to Don Campbell, author of “The Mozart Effect,” the voice can only reproduce sounds within the range of what the human ear can hear.  Further research has proven that UNDERSTANDING and LISTENING SKILLS increase in direct proportion to that range.  In other words, the more you can hear, the more the brain attends to details in speech and other sounds, and the more the mind can understand the content matter and put it into proper context.

Campbell says, “When the perception of midrange and high frequencies is missing in the prenatal and first three years of life, difficulties in listening or learning may arise later.  Without any traces of deafness, a deficient ability to hear frequencies below 1000 Hz (vibrations per second, approximately two octaves up from middle C on the piano) can cause great difficulty in understanding and remembering spoken information, especially in male voices.”

The John Walker brand of tuning forks range from 261.6 to 523.3 Hz.  So for those who have these great tuning forks, please keep up the exercises! They will help boost your child’s development in more than just musical pitch.

The Calming Effect of Tuning Forks

The introduction of tuning forks into the classroom has accelerated our program in leaps and bounds.  Originally purchased for frequency attunement and perfect pitch recognition, the harmonizing effects of these little wonders have spilled into other areas of the child’s development.

Here are classroom notes taken in May, 2000...

“When little Gerald is due to enter the classroom, I clear my schedule beforehand to prepare myself, the classroom and put out new materials for his quick, racing mind.  Gerald is a borderline ADD/ADHD child whose activity and interests change from second to second.  When he and his Mom enter the classroom, we hug and then... it’s off to the races!

We follow him from lesson to lesson ready to step in when he seeks to play a more structured or interactive game.  The lessons on the shelves--all of them-- have to be new or his attention wanders and he loses interest in the class.

The same day the tuning forks arrived in the mail, Gerald and his mother were scheduled to come for their class.  As usual, his entry followed a warm hug and he started to survey the classroom.  As he was not interested in sitting down, and generally likes to constantly move about (!!!), I followed him and took out the tuning forks.  I hit one on my knee and held it to his ear.  He whirled around and looked at me, eyes open with wonder.

“Do you have more?  Can I do it?” he asked quietly.  (Quietly!)

“Yes!” I replied, handing him the fork.

He sat down.  I sat down.  I rolled out the canvas bag.  He sounded and listened to each tuning fork in the bag--13 notes in all.  Then, he was done.  He walked (walked!) over to the lesson shelf, pulled out a game and brought it over to me.  We sat together and played two interactive memory and imaging lessons.  His concentration was steady the whole time!  This is the first time that he has had such a long attention span in our lessons.”

Wennie,

Thanks for your answer. You mention that the high frequencies are important for listening and so forth, but the tuning forks are only available in the low frequency range. Are there a set of high frequency forks available? Or am I misunderstanding you?
