EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Encyclopedic Knowledge / What your kindergardner needs to know.........let's all do it!!

HI All
I have been reading through ED Hirsch's Book, "what your kindergardner needs to know". There were quite a few gaps in my Bits presentations and so I have written out a whole list that hasn't been covered. Most of the material in the book has been posted in some form or another on this forum and others. If you really want the details, I would be happy to loan you my book.
But instead of me doing all the bits, I was wondering if we wanted to start a thread where each person takes one. It would make the work load so much easier on me. Especially, since I am expecting in a month. Here are the topics and I am more than happy to take the first one - Tom Sawyer.
Tom Sawyer Daniel Boone Booker T. Washington Pocohantus Colombus Veteran's day Labor day Memorial day M.L. King Lincoln's bday Washington's bday Independence day Thanksgiving.
I am going to work through "What your first grader needs to know" and if this is a hit, maybe we can do the same thing for that?
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I was a rotary exchange student too and picked up portugese in Brazil from not knowing ONE word. I would be keen to do an exchange with you since I am teaching my son Spanish- again from scratch. I am one month away from having my second one, so I would say next year would be a better idea. I love the idea of full immersion. So come and spend a few weeks with us in Thousand Oaks, California and we could follow you to Costa Rica or where ever you deem fit! Sounds like an awesome idea. Anyone in China want to jump in on this band wagon. I am also trying to teach my son Mandarin (simplified).

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Encyclopedic Knowledge / Re: Teaching About Evolution.

This has been an inspiring debate. Ultimately, each parent has the right to teach their child what they believe to be true. All of your comments are respected but for those that are interested in creationism, I will post the bits. Just give me some time because I have put lots of photos of my son in them to make them pertinent to him. So I will recreate them and post. Thanks for the interesting conversation!

That is a brilliant question and since I am a Christian, I don't teach evolution to my son at all. Instead I teach creationism, directly from the bible. It makes sense, especially since Darwin has been disproved, I want to teach my child what I believe to be correct. If you are looking for a fantastic series, or you want some bits on creationism, google Ken Ham. He has made books for kids. If you want bits, I changed the books into bits and would be happy to share them with you. It is taught it a factual, scientific way using Genesis as the basic foundation.

If you are looking, I own the distribution rights for a natural skin care product line that is only produced in South Africa. I have been introducing it to the US market over the past two years while I home school my little boy and have lots of women either selling it to retail stores or simply doing home parties. For more information, go to www.wholeyouth.com and see if you like the product. The prices on there are marked up at 140% of what you will get them at...............so I think the margins are pretty good to keep you at home with baby
