Thank you "Teaching My Toddlers" Mom for your opinion. It's so helpful for me to see different point of views. Like I said I need more edu for myself before I would start with my son, but that would be nice to hear about your experience with Soroban. Thank you again

Thank you Mom2bee for your opinion. I've been searching for this method and reading for days now and it's obvious that I have to learn it first. So I guess I have to wait to teach him anyways. Thanks again, Stodd

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / how to start soroban?

I'm really curious how to start the Soroban method. I've been doing Doman with my son and I dont know if its a good idea or wouldn't confuse him to start a different thing. I also don't know how to do it. I've found Chris1 downloads (Thank you sooo much for that). but still question what to do with them. Show him a couple of times a day just like Doman math? When to move on to the next 10 number? I really hope that somebody can help and would be appreciated. Thanks, Stodd

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Teaching MATH- What NEXT now?

Hi, I'm doing Doman math with my 2 year old and we are getting closer to the problem solving step. So, I dont know what will happen- so far there is no sign that he would recognize quantities. But I've decided to do this method as far as I could because I think that even if there is no obvious result, it may help him later to learn math ( I was not good at all at school that's why I want to help him). We'll see.

Thanks. I'm really curious what will happen- I'm really hoping that I can help him if nothing else than to learn things easier. Also can't wait some result but so far nothing exept that he always says "equals" with me. He loves the zero card too. I try to do everything the same way it is written, so I'm not testing him. I would love to hear about others who are further then us and about their experience.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Need help with Doman math

I need some help. I've been doing the Doman math with my 2 year old son and after we finished addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, I'm a little confused. First of all we still didn't finished the numbers (quantities) till 100 (we are at 84 right now). But after we will, how many sessions will we have? only 3 times 3 three step equations plus 1 problem solving? Even dough I've read the book, It's just not clear. If there is anybody who has experience, please help. Thanks, Stodd

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: And what comes next?

Hi Lolobride, Are u Hungarian? I'm. Do you leave in Hungary? ( I leave in the US). Do you mean that you use LR only in Hungarian or also in English? Sorry for the questions, it wasn't clear to me. I started with my son the "Your Baby Can Read" program when he was about 14 months. I also use Hungarian flash cards. He started to recognize the words about a month after we started but I think that method is a little different: after watching the dvd many times a day you also show the flash cards and kinda test them. You may want to try to show her your own made flash cards. Sometimes I don't ask my son I just don't say the word so he says it. If he doesn't know it, he would look at me and says: Mama? And I tell him. I also agree with the others that she learns a lot every day with you and the LR and she will show you soon what she had learned. Stodd

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: teaching 2-3 languages

I'm home with my son and always talk to him in Hungarian (he is 2). My husband talks only in English (we live in the US). Sometimes its difficult for me to use two languages. I usually just translate between my son and my husband if necessary. We also do the YBCR that helps him with English. Now he knows that sometimes I use English with him- when we read a book, watch the flash cards...but our language is still Hungarian, so we have the every day conversations only in Hungarian. I have to tell that at the beginning he didn't want me to use English with himthan he realized that its just for a short period of time. I also use some English when we play in the playground and he wants to communicate with other kids. We've just started to watch Little Pim in Spanish- we will see what happens. So far he's interested. And about reading: I'm also doing some Hung. flash cards with him and he has no problam. I think he 'd accepted that when we have English "lessons", we use English, otherwise just Hung. We also do the Doman math (in English). Not easy to organize. I usually use meal times (in the highchair) for reading PPTs, its 2-3 times a day. Watch educational DVD in the morning and in the evenings. I'm planning to do the Spanish 2-3 times a week probably Mon, Wed, Fr.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / schedule of different educational subjects

I'm wondering how others can do different things with their little one. I've been doing Doman math and reading every day and I would like to start Spanish too. Wright now I can't see how to organize these things. It seems too much (in time) to do everything since there are other things to do . Or should I just do the new language 2 times a week, on certain days?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / When do yoy introduce a new language?
|
on: November 02, 2010, 12:21:41 PM

First of all thanks for every advice in the prev topic- I started a new because I'm really interested. The question is: how long do you wait before you start to introduce a new language? I mean with the 3rd, 4th... Is that enough if they just get used to listen and get familiar with the sound of it or they need more, deeper "knowledge" before the next one. I'm almost ready to start his 3rd leng, that will be spanish and than (I don't know when) I would like to go with Chinese. By the way, What do you think: Chinese or Japanese? Thanks
