Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: How to make toddler sleep through the night?

Hi Winth,
At 6-7 months, it was all pureed veggies (carrots, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, green bean, parsnip, pea, spinach) and fruits (apple, banana, mango, peach, pear) then introduced finger foods and lumpy meals after that. Now, I practically give him food that we eat on the table. From 7 months, I've been giving him milk 3x - upon waking up, after his lunch and after dinner. This makes him eat more during lunch and dinner if I give it after. I sometimes give him snacks in-between. When he wakes up late in the morning (9am), I give him his bowl of cereal and fruit first then milk after.
Personally, it also helped me to give a pacifier at night during the early stages when he would still wake up. But he's not too attached to it. He sometimes likes it but sometimes don't. Now he sleeps with or without it.
Hope this helps.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: eliminating dairy products
|

I've read from Dr. Mercola's website ( www.mercola.com) that dairy is indeed harmful to our bodies, can even cause cancer and other diseases because the ultimate source - the cow - is given different antibiotics and growth hormones that eventually transfer to humans. I even read one cancer survivor doctor, who completely eliminated dairy in her diet and never since had any remission and claims that dairy is indeed the culprit why she had it in the first place. When I get to find her testimony and the studies she has made in my files I will post it. With regard to giving milk to babies, this claim should apply too don't you think so? I just checked the milk of my baby and it says that it's CASEIN-DOMINANT and from the IAHP article sent by Nikky, casein is harmful. Now, I don't know whether to change my milk (ultimately it's still cow's milk though) or stop giving milk to my 14-month old baby and substitute with other calcium foods? I will be calling the manufacturer to ask about casein. Oh well...I'm confused now...

The book series "On Becoming Babywise" helped me put my baby to sleep.
We trained him to sleep in his own room at 4 months. He started sleeping through the night when he established his 3 solid meals a day at 7 months. Subsequently, I also dropped his night feed/early morning (2am). Since I was still breastfeeding at that time, I had to ask my husband to wake up and pat him to sleep when he would wake up in the middle of the night as my baby could 'smell' me. This took about 3 days of training and then he didn't wake up anymore (he must have figured that I won't be there to give him milk). From then on, my baby sleeps from 7pm-7am. He has 2 day naps of 1.5-2 hours each, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The key learning for me is whenever he cries, I would just go in and pat him or stroke his back and say re-assuring words that would comfort him then I would leave. I would go back if his cry becomes distressed.

Elizabeth, do you check whether Hunter is able to know the answers after every 2 weeks of learning a particular set of equations? Or do you just randomly check after finishing all 2-weeks sets of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division? I know we are not supposed to "test" babies according to Doman. I'm sure you do it with Hunter in a very fun way?

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: whats the difference between the Shichida method and Glenn Domanns?

Thanks for the reply Trinity Papa. It seems that it's really quite a challenge to get hold of Shichida materials as most are written in traditional Chinese and they only share the info by enrolling your child to their school. I wish they can also do what Doman is doing with books and DVDs apart from the courses they offer so they can reach a wider audience. Oh well...I guess those living in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan may just be fortunate to enrol their children in the Shichida class.
