About a week ago someone introduced us to an application that my 5 yo girl just loved! It is not made with kids in mind, so it is a bit fast moving, BUT it has a lot of awesome EK style of information. It is called QuizUp and it is free. It is a real time quiz with social media element, in a sense that when you chose any of the quizzes you want to do, it matches you up with someone else wanting to do that quiz and you compete. For 5 yo it is not an ideal, because she wants to go slower and discuss her answers and not be on the timer But overall, she does not mind, because the questions are EK type of questions and even when we answer wring it shows the right answer at the end. It has topics like geography ( all kind of aspects, we had fun playing European countries and Cities of the world), herbs and spices, fruits and vegetables, animals. You would need to do it together with a child, but I would definitely recommend it.

The BrillKids Forum / Forum Feedback + Questions / Re: German curriculum

Hi OleSSio and welcome to the Forum! I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying LR curriculum. At the moment German curriculum not in the development stages, I am sorry if that is a disappointment. But the good news is that there are a fair number of German lessons in our library http://library.brillkids.com/library.php?cid=1&lid=12 -- you can download these and use them in your Little Reader. You can also customize your Little Reader lessons and make your own German lessons. Let us know if you have more questions about that and we will direct you to the how to articles about that! I know many parents creating lessons in their own languages. If you do so, don't forget to share them with others by uploading them into the library It is wonderful to have such an international community here! Let us know if we can help with anything.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Wink - Right Brain Kids Package - Do I need everything?? Any key purchases?

Yes, I like the Wink Program. We got it from ebay a while ago, but because the video materials were on the VHS tapes it took me a while before starting to utilize it little by little. We have not done much with the actual program yet . But as I am reading their Program Manual I started to realize how many Right Brain activities we were already incorporating into our daily routine. Most of the ideas I got here on the Forum, some from reading about Shichida program. Reading through the Manual helps me to organize my thoughts thought, and see things in perspective. It is written very clearly and simply, I liked that. It almost feels like a summary of a longer work. For example when I red Shichida books I needed to take notes, here it feels like these are the notes. And it works great for a busy parent, even though I would have enjoyed a bit more explanation and in-depth information on some points I am putting some of my notes, as I am reading the book here in case it will be helpful for anyone else.

Kandcsmomma, Like Lori mentioned you can find a lot in discussions on the forum -- ideas for activities, books, learning tools. You can use search button at the top of this page to search for any key word or topic. Plus I would encourage you to post! Any specific question you might have will take just a few minutes to post, but I got a lot of help and ideas in the beginning of my learning journey just bringing it up for discussion here. Parents here are very kind, open minded and understanding, and the best thing -- they are usually suggesting what worked for them! Here is also a link to Special needs board Lori mentioned - http://forum.brillkids.com/parents-with-special-needs-children/But do not hesitate to post questions in other related boards as well! You also might want to check a special scholarship program we have for special needs children here -- http://www.eeecf.org/sponsorships/individual-sponsorships.php Because we want them to succeed It is wonderful to have you here, welcome to the Forums!

The BrillKids Forum / BrillKids Announcements / Re: FINALLY, introducing our Spanish Curriculum for Little Reader! On sale today!

DannyandAmy,
BrillKids team had a few volunteers translate software strings for leading languages. It is not a curriculum. These are all the options you see when you use Little Reader program, such as the commands "Play Courses", "Play and Edit", "Download", etc
When you helped, as you mentioned, with translating those software strings (not a Japanese Curriculum). It enabled Japanese native readers to use the Little Reader program with the software in Japanese. Which is incredibly helpful for parents and caregivers who do not speak much English, but using LR to teach English ( or other languages) to their children.
Thank you so much for that help. It was implemented immediately, last year!
As far as Japanese curriculum, it is still in very early stages of development and we do not have an ETA for its release just yet.
We are looking at Arabic and Russian being the next languages to be released, as both of those are in the later stages of development at the moment.
Hope this information helps!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Unhealthy images used in Little Math
|

Berniejean, I am glad it was a help! In our household we do not eat any fast food, and cook everything from scratch, kids even learn to grow their own vegetables and herbs So I feel your concern about unhealthy choices many people make. But it never even came to my mind that some images on the trial version might be offensive to anyone. Since it is highly customizable and it is just a demo. But I see your point. Sorry that it caused you a trial, I am sure it was not in anyone's intention!I do agree that I skip some math worksheets or books, simple because they use candy as their addition/subtraction model. But that happens with non customizable books when this demo model used in excess. I would not care about few here and there. But in Little Math you can even use your own icons! And for us dots and geometrical figures ( and no images) actually worked the best (Just my personal opinion though ( and it is not expressed here as by the member of BK team I think it is important for the kids to know about things, my kids do not eat junk food or store bought candy, BUT if they see something and would like to know what it is, I would not just hide it from them as if it does not exists! They tried fries and hamburger ( did not like it, haha) and candy, and all kind of things , we do not just forbid it, we talk about it, and provide them awesome delicious healthy choices, but we also dont keep them in a bubble. They LOVE pop corn ( but we get organic one made with olive oil) Now that is my personal opinion and... wait how come we are talking about healthy vs junk food in discussion of a math program But I invite you to open discussion on health food and early learning on General Chat Forum Board for example, I am all for discussing those things!! And I always learn something new from others too. Healthy discussion is amazing tool that all of us can benefit from., Anyways those were just my personal thoughts on the side) Regarding Chinese New Years, there was an announcement here -- http://forum.brillkids.com/announcements/happy-chinese-new-year!-bk-hq-will-be-closed-from-jan-31-to-feb-3/ You are always welcome to post your questions and inquiries on the Forum as well, and even when BK office is on the holidays, there are always others here on the Forum who are more then happy to lend a helping hand! It is wonderful to have you here and I hope to hear more about your learning journey, don't hesitate to ask questions and participate in discussions!
