Drawing on the walls how well do I know that one, so they do make paint that can be wiped off that you can paint on the wall to avoid a big mess. I start homeschooling at 6 months of age with flashcards, when they are able to hold an object. Dry erase boards are great to start with, however, you can use a highlighter instead of the markers because some of the markers will bleed onto objects and causes a stain. There are many things that you can do; big foam letters to carry around, felt letters, foam puzzles, even if they make a mess with shaving cream, you can use powdered sugar and water and a little food coloring for paint, and you can use sugar and water to make a glue as well, however, some food colorings will stain as well. These activities we do, we even write in pudding! There is a website that I like it is www.hubbardscupboard.org FREE that has tons of great ideas, and I think the website is http://www.handsonhomeschooling.com/ to purchase that gives great resources, and www.adaycare.com. to purchase as well. You can also look into making your own hands-on items if you have the time. I make all kinds of things for my little ones out of recycled items. We make books, puzzles, felt items, games out of recycled cans, and so on. We also use Toddler Time from www.abcmouse.com at that age. My daugher is 9 months and she loves this program, and you can use BK as well. I did for my older son 4 now and he could recite a complete sentence before he was 1 year old using BK Little Reader.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / cardfile program

I believe I have placed this somewhere already on here but anyway. www.azzcardfile.com This azz cardfile is a free download of a program that will help you organize, and create a recipe box of homeschool worksheets, curricula, and record keeping worksheets. I love using this program it is so easy to move within, to create groups and pages within the groups. There is also a free file already created for homeschooling links as well to download for free, ofcourse you have to download the free azz cardfile program for free then download the homeschool link card file. This program can be saved to a jumpdrive and run from the jumpdrive and to store all of the files that you create and or download from their website. I ahve created over 10 card file systems or as some say a data base. It is easy to use, and you can print the card files as well. Talk about putting a portfolio together with a breeze, or creating your own recipe database, or homeschool record keeping or a homeschool library database. check it out and tell me what you think. Do you think it is easy to use? and check out the homeschool links cardfile that is already available to download for free, because you can add more links to the cardfile and make it your own cardfile database.

I realize that portfolios may seem for older children but around here we do them at 6 years old and up until we get to 4th grade then the portfolios become not one but 2, a writing portfolio as well. Does anyone save their child's homeschool work and create a portfolio?

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Dry Erase Cursive Workbook??

wow thanks for all of the links, but we actually make our own dry erase sheets and boards. We use poster board or presentation board that is cut slightly bigger then our paper, spray on glue and just a worksheet that has been covered with a plastic sheet protector where we can change the worksheet inside. It works great for us, and of course you can purchase the dry erase sticky computer paper where you can print on it using your printer (ink jet only) then complete the worksheet with a dry erase marker, and you can also purchase projector sheets that you use with a projector that you can print on as well and then use dry erase markers. we do this all of the time.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Is Cursive Writing Important?

Good info! I didn't think about other countries, good points. I homeschool several children with the co-op and I see it more and more where teenagers have horrible writing. I can't read it, so if I can't read it then their employers will not be able to either, of course they can text about 1000 words a minute versus handwriting, maybe it is a dying art. back when I was a child handwriting was very important, it told the world a little about yourself. Thanks for all of the replies.

Check out the library link by ed that is posted here on the forum. There are tons of links that can help you. I teach all kinds of levels and create different curriculums for each child so I know how hard it is when teaching differnet levels. But one thought by placing the children together they will learn off of each other so never fret about putting them together. They will learn off of each others strengths. You can use flash cards, BK program, starfall.com, abcmouse.com, readingeggs.com, dreamenglish.com, lessonpathways.com, and there are tons more. You can also view some ideas on the video section here on BK
