My 5 year old son enjoys Bindi though I would only recommend the first few up to about episode 12.  I've only seen a few of the later ones and wasn't that impressed. 

Other than that he enjoys watching (British) Top Gear     Probably not the most appropriate show for a child but it is hard to find something educational that is also entertaining and he's a boy    

Every so often he does go through a word world phase but it wears off as he really is beyond that level.  I think he just likes that as I don't allow him to watch cartoons normally. 

He will also watch Maisy DVDs which my 2.5 year old loves.  We play them mostly in French.  They are a bit young for him really though.  He does watch Little Pim (French and Chinese) at times. 

At the moment he is enjoying a youtube playlist that I put together with lots of various songs (Peter Weatherall, countries of the world, flags, multiplication etc.. and a few Bible verses thrown in for good measure )

He used to LOVE Letters and Numbers (Australian version) on SBS and we were really sad that finished.

Interested to hear what others are watching as some new material would be good.

I would also love some good options for multiplication and division.  Ones that sound good, not too dull but are also very clear.
For some other math/science tunes we have been enjoying some of Peter Weatherall's from youtube.

We didn't have anything as nifty as a swim fin but what we use works in a similar way.  It is a back float similar to this (just a random link I found)

As they get more confident the floats can be removed so that they need to do more work to stay afloat.  My kids have spent most of the time just using 2 floats before not needing them at all.
Definitely not for a baby though.  I think my kids started using them around 20 months (possibly could have earlier but they were both around that age when Summer was here). 
We spend time with them using this float but also swimming without it depending on how closely I can be watching them (if other children are with me etc..).

Not specifically for reading but just wondered if you have ever looked in to Nuerological Reorganisation?  This is a similar program to Doman and works through a set sequence of movements that all newborns/children should go through as they develop.  Sometimes our kids with nuerological differences miss or don't spend enough time on these movements (crawling, creeping, eye movements etc..).  We haven't had our child assessed yet (but it will probably be our next step) so I can't give you any first hand experience but if you are interested there is a yahoo group called nueroreorganisation that you can ask parents/therapists questions.

Thanks for this post Krista.  We have looked for a while for some reasonably priced, good quality, kid's bible verses set to music and this definitely fits the bill.  I have just emailed to ask if they ship to Australia so will wait to hear back.  Unfortunately though they do seem to be out of stock of some of the CDs but hopefully that is just temporary.  They sound great though and I love that they provide 2 copies - 1 for you and 1 to give away.  What a great way to plant 'seeds'!

 Wondering if anyone has had problems when introducing Doman exercises.  I have finally (after years of considering) started introducing a Doman program with my daughter (8 yrs with autism).  After reading How Smart is your Baby again I decided to start with crawling (commando/belly) each day as even though she is walking she Never crawled properly (always dragged one side).  So after 2months her crawling is slightly improving but her sleep was rapidly deteriorating to the point where she was awake most days from about 1am.  Finally connected this to crawling and stopped and she is not back to normal completely but is at least sleeping until around 5 or so (except on the couple of days that I had her crawl again to test my theory). 
So, firstly, why?  Too much stimulation?  Changes in the brain?
Secondly, what to do?  Start off much slower (we were doing 4laps of our hall which is probably about 15metres/45feet or less)?  Maybe we should start with one lap?  Start with just spending time laying on the floor?  Start with cross patterning?
Any insights would be appreciated.
