EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: My Doman Math Schedule

Thanks Angie for the wonderful work.
I have a question. Would be glad if someone could answer it for me. I am currently following the LM curriculum. We are on quantity 22 I guess. Can I start showing additions with Angie's files? Or do I have to wait for the curriculum to start that? I am not sure when it starts with the curriculum.
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks, Questers.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Math - giving wrong answer phenomenon

Though I was intimidated by the high failure rate and the non-verbalization part of it initially, I am now more inspired by Domanmom's blog ( http://grhomeschooling.blogspot.com/search/label/Math). It is clear from her blog that she is reinforcing math in many other ways apart from just flashcards, and Hunter definitely seems to have a good understanding of the subject. I feel it is not fair to generalize that Doman math does not work. If it does not work, then it should not work for anybody. But if a couple of people are having success with it, then I guess it is something do-able. There are several factors which could alter the success of any method...consistency of the program, child's interest (in dots particularly) etc. I do not think teaching Doman math can cause any harm. So I guess we can give our children the opportunity. ..And now that we have LM with the several icon options, it might help keep the child's interest levels up. After all, if a child has a pleasant feeling toward math and if he is comfortable with numbers later in life, I think that is what matters the most. If Doman math helps them achieve this comfort level with mathematics, then I guess its worth a try. Questers.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: In which language would you like to see the curriculum translated first?

Joha, I understood your question, but I said they would prefer to start in Chinese as that is the official language in Hong Kong and they will have more local resources to do the translation... In any case, I haven't decided yet about my preference...There would be one of those popular languages, but before that I would start with Hindi and Tamil, prevalent languages in India. I might be interested in French or German, not sure. I will have to see what languages are being taught in schools here in India. Questers.

Joha, Thats great she knows the colors! Keep reviewing them with her in daily conversations and while playing with her. Around the same age, my son knew the basic colors too...In fact, if i pointed out at different objects he had not seen earlier and asked him to pick a particular color, he would do it correctly. But I was too happy with that and stopped recalling colors in daily conversations with him. After about a month, when i asked him, he seemed to have forgotten them. Now with LR, when the color section comes, he does not seem interested. I am not sure if he is doing that because he knows the colors or if he is simply not interested in learning colors anymore . In any case, blue seems to be his favorite right now. Wherever there is blue, he says buooo now..! Questers.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: E-mail from IAHP- Teaching math in different languages

Joha,
Thats very dissapointing indeed to get 2 different answers from them.
I too believe Katie Doman's mail sounds better. We are just teaching them the concept. The concept is the same in any language, only the name given to the numeral is different. In that case, it would be sufficient to teach in the primary language first, so that they understand the concept well. Names of the numeral in any other language or many other languages can be taught at any point of time in one's life.

The BrillKids Forum / BrillKids Announcements / Re: New Loyalty Points System for Posting

Dear Lappy,
I don't think so...We don't get points when someone replies to our thread. I am quite sure of it. I have started a few threads and there have been replies to it, but no points as yet. Could there be some glitch in the system..? Would request you to kindly look into it.

BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: How to Create New Icon Sets
|
on: July 13, 2009, 12:48:09 PM

I find that some of the user-generated icons are small when they flash, despite changing the settings to "large." Some of them are really good but for the size. Is there any way with which I can change the size of the icons?
Cheers, Questers.

Thanks Joha for the reply...Good to note that you have been consistent with the program. Consistency definitely pays off! Well, I have to confess this, I couldn't resist the temptation to do problem solving and did one today...(I just wanted to make sure it works before we move on...silly me! ) We are into day 15 of the curriculum, quantity 14. I am glad to say my LO got it 100% right!! Thanks to KL & Team for devising such a great product and a great curriculum! Questers.
