The BrillKids Forum / Forum Rules + Regulations / Guidelines for Posting Downloads
|
on: June 16, 2008, 11:01:23 AM
|
Hello everyone! We've noticed that many people have already begun sharing their Little Reader files, PowerPoint slideshows and flash card printouts! We have devised a way to better organize these downloads by revamping the File Downloads area, but we still need a bit of your help. If you have uploaded your files, we hope that you will kindly go to your download files edit them and fill in as much information about the file as possible - this will make it easier for others who want to download the file know what they are getting before clicking on the download button. For everyone who has yet to upload a file, here are some general guidelines and rules to follow:• We recommend that before exporting your files, personalize your categories and files in a way so as not to cause any conflicts with other people's files when other people import them. To read more on this, please click here. • Make sure you fill in all the required details about your download. o Title Use a title that is self-explanatory. Ex. Category – Body Parts, Chinese – Food 1 o Category This is very important, because this will tell you where your file is going to be after you upload it. o Description Tell us about your file: List out all the words included in your category/file. Does it include pronunciations, videos, pictures and picture audio? • Double check the details you have written about your file prior to uploading them. We can’t stress enough that you should make sure to place them in the right section. • If you are translating someone else’s categories, please be sure that you have their permission to do so.• After posting your download, go to the Little Reader - Library Downloads thread and make a post about your recent download, and invite everyone to have a look at it by telling them about what your new file has.• Please also include the link to your download in your post, so that people can easily access your file if they want. You may do this by copying the URL from your address bar (while viewing your download) and then pasting the link in the thread where you announce it! We hope that this will make things clearer and easier for everyone. Posting about your new download will also invite other people to comment on it and rate it, so you'll get the feedback you need. That's it everyone! Have fun sharing your downloads!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How smart is your baby

Thanks for the plug nohayo, and yes pupisek, BrillBaby does have an excellent resource of articles that discuss everything about early childhood education, including gists of Glenn and Janet Doman's work along with other experts in the field. I've gone through some of Doman's books, and they were mostly interesting reads and very informative. It talks about everything from infant stimulation cards, high contrast patterns to stimulate brain development and so much more. We have taken some of the books insights and developed our free products from it, and yes, I do believe that it's worth the read. :

The BrillKids Forum / BrillKids Announcements / Calling for Foreign Language Word Sets!
|
on: June 12, 2008, 06:07:47 AM
|
Calling all Little Reader Category Authors! We just opened a new section under Little Reader File Downloads - the FOREIGN LANGUAGE CATEGORY DOWNLOADS! We're hoping that our forum members can lend us a hand by creating and uploading categories that include words in different languages - Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Czech, etc. All of these foreign language categories can be used for teaching our children new languages and they are very easy to make and upload. You can choose any category or topic that you like, create and add words to your category, export the file, and upload to our FILE DOWNLOADS section! As an added incentive, you earn 50 loyalty points for each upload you make to the Foreign Language Category Downloads, as well as 5 loyalty points for each time someone downloads a category you made!

Oh dear, very sorry about that Teresa, but yes, that does mean that you won't be able to beta test the program. But I do hope that we develop something for Mac users soon. In the meantime, I'll be putting more effort in making some more slideshows for all of you to use.

The BrillKids Forum / Forum Feedback + Questions / Re: Create new category

Hi Joanne! Thanks for wanting to share your files! You can actually share them with us in two ways, here's how to do it: 1. You can share them as PDF flash cards by uploading them to the FILE DOWNLOADS section under Printed Flash Cards. 2. If you have the files in .ppt format, you can also upload your file to the PowerPoint Slideshows section. 3. You can import the media files into Little Reader too - this means you will need to make a category, create the words, and attach the images and sounds. Little Reader doesn't have a one-click import of PDF files, but it does enable you to recreate your flash cards easily. I hope this helps, if you have any further questions, do let me know! Cheers, Lappy

Hi Goris! You have beautiful children! I'm very happy to have you in the forums, and I think you'll enjoy your time here since everyone is so friendly! We have a great community of like-minded parents, we believe in helping children to grow up loving to learn by giving them the right tools early in life. It's true, nothing is impossible, and even parents - with the right guidance and information - can learn that children can learn virtually boundless amounts of information which can help them as they grow older. And yes, I'm also pleased to know that there are many parents such as you who believe in bilingual teaching - I personally grew up in a household that uses three languages, and I don't think there was any confusion on my part learning them, it just made life a bit more colorful and interesting. :tongue2: I hope that you enjoy the Spanish word library, and hopefully soon we'll expand the foreign language sets even more! Cheers, Lappy

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / colors during playback
|
on: June 10, 2008, 03:33:36 AM
|
Hi Katiejo! About your problem with 'yellow' - may I ask you if the other colors come out alright in your monitor as well? Are you using the default Colors category from Little Reader? I have just recently checked the default 'yellow' image and it comes out as bright yellow on my end. I hope you can supply me with a few more details so we can help you easily fix this. Hi Leanna! I couldn't help but post the Body Parts category right away since it was so in demand, and I'm very happy to find out that you liked it! As for the "new downloads" feature, we don't exactly have one like that yet, but we have made it easier for you to access the file downloads section in the forum! You can now see the file downloads list on your Little Reader, simply by clicking on the DOWNLOAD button on the program! And to sort out the downloads list according to the date of when they were posted, click on the DATE link, and the list will automatically sort itself out for you! I hope it helps things for the meantime, and thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Angie and welcome to the Forums! I'm very happy to have another avid parent/educator in our community, and seeing as you have a lot of experience teaching your child, it would be great fun to listen in on your thoughts and suggestions for Little Reader. As KL said, since we have just launched the program, most of the available library expansions are still quite basic - but not to worry, Little Reader will be growing as we develop our plans for a more comprehensive library for even advanced readers. And thanks for the link, too! Hope to see more of you in the threads! Cheers, Lappy
