Parents' Lounge / Coffee Shop - Chat Place / Re: what do you do for fun?

I'm in a local MOPS group. Twice a month we take our kids and they all go in rooms by age to play games and do crafts. While they're being babysat, the moms eat a delicious meal and play games (like BUNCO). This is a FABULOUS time for me!!

You stimulate vision by causing the eyes to dialate and contract.
We go in a completely dark closet and turn the lights on and off. I have a little song I sing while I do it. Remember--the more stimulation, the faster a child can progress. The lights on and off causes his pupils to dilate and contract and helps his vision.
We do this 10x/day.

So, what do you think you see in your baby, 3 months down the line, that is a result of doing these things? I'm really interested to see what difference it makes, especially the tummy time and crawling track!
I can say that my first son (who I also did the track with) was crawling on hands and knees at 4.5 months whereas the average in the United States is around 7 months (and not crawling at all is common, too).

We've been enjoying him so much. He's had some problems, but we're working through them as much as we can. We're so blessed by God to have a wonderful family!

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Should I Start a Website?
|
on: February 26, 2010, 07:53:34 PM

I currently have a blog, http://domaninspiredparenting.blogspot.com, with a very good number of loyal readers!! I appreciate them so much. On this blog, I've shared our experiences teaching our son, Timothy, using the Glenn Doman methods. Now we have a 3-week-old baby and we're starting over. I do product reviews, tell of our experiences, and have links for resoruces...not to mention pictures of my cute kids I'm starting to do product reviews more often on our blog and I'm wondering if I should start a website. I think I'd keep the same name (domaninspiredparenting.com) but I'm not sure what's involved in building a website, or if people would even like it. Should I just keep the blog? I don't know!! Can someone give me advice??

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Baby Plus
|
on: January 29, 2010, 02:16:14 AM

I used it throughout my pregnancy with my son. He was born 6 weeks early. They said he would need to spend over a month in NICU and he got out in 2 weeks. He was crawling across the room at 4.5 months. He had some problems, but I think without BabyPlus he may have had more.
I'm due any day now and I've used BabyPlus again this pregnancy. I can't guarantee it helps, but at least it gives the baby SOMETHING to do and the claims make sense. So I'm using it--can't hurt!!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Perfect Pitch- Beneficial? or Harmful?
|
on: January 26, 2010, 04:13:52 PM

I don't think that has anything to do with perfect pitch, probably. People with perfect pitch probably grew up in loud, musical households where noise is a given. Silence would be distracting. I wrote my entire dissertation with the television on for background noise. Silence really bothers me--I need nosie all the time. I don't, however, have perfect pitch but my father is a musician and my house was loud growing up. That's not an impediment, though--who cares? I do quiet work with noise in the background.
