I was just talking to my husband this morning about creating an area in our budget for educational things. There are so many things I would like to get for our dd but living on one income won't allow unless we save. I thought I could get a head start if I start saving now,(she is only 5 months).

Does your library have an interlibrary loan program? What I do is look up books online (at a place amazon so I can see reviews) and then go to my library's website to see if they have it. I can also see if any of the other libraries in my county have it, if so they will send it to my local library. If there isn't a waiting list for the book I usually get it in a few days. 

But being on a budget has forced me to be creative. Which is a good thing I'm sure.

I found an online French radio station for children. Its out of Canada. I'm trying to teach my dd french and this station has stories and music for kids. I leave it on for a while during the day as we do other things around the house. Its a great FREE resource for helping teach the sounds of the language. I've also picked up some words that I've learned in French. Let me know what you think about it.

When my mom homeschooled myself and my two brothers she would get used text books from the public school. She also suplimented with library books. I plan to homeschool my little ones, (I only have one so far), and I would like to write my own curriculum. Has anyone done this? I think there is enough access to info these days that you don't have to spend a lot of money for your kids to get a good education.

This was very helpful. I'm trying to learn Mandarin so I can teach my little girl. Right now we are listening to Professor Parrot's Sound Beginnings. It has a 15 min Mandarin track that we listen to every moring while getting dressed. I would like to get her Little Pim when she gets a little older. (she's only 5 months.) But she is hearing the sounds of the language which will help her with pronunciation.
So I have a little time to practice.

I do play it everyday as well. I enjoy listening and I have picked up some of the words. We also have the Spanish version, but have only listened to the French so far.

Has anyone tried Baby's first words in French? I got this for my 5 month old because I wanted her to learn French. I don't speak it, but I am taking lessons on you tube.
If anyone has used this CD, please let me know about your experience. Also if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated.

    I was home schooled 3rd through 12th grade. None of my family supported my mom's decision, except my dad. This was back in the 80's when not a lot of people had caught on to the idea. I had family members tell me that mom couldn't teach me as well as public school teachers could, and that I would never graduate from high school and never be able to go to college. It's sad to think that adults would say such things to an eight year old.
    Well I did graduate from high school and I went to college and graduated with an 3.98 GPA. Right now I am the stay at home mom of my beautiful 5 month old daughter, whom I plan to (well I guess I've already started) home school. Right now she is getting socialization through our LLL meetings and the nursery at church.
   I was part of a home school group as a child that did all kinds of things together. Like field trips, bowling, picnics and we even had school pictures.
   Kudos to anyone who would take on the challenge of teaching their children. No one can do it as well as you.

I've faced the same negative feedback from others about teaching my 4 month old to read. Its a shame that you end up keeping something so exciting to yourself. My husband and I have also been using EC since she was 6 weeks and don't feel comfortable telling anyone about it.
But its ok, as long as we know she's happy and were not forcing her to do anything. I'm glad I found this forum for support and info. Happy reading to all.

Hi to all. I'm the mother of 4 month old Janelle. I first was introduced to early child education by a friend who gave me "How to teach your baby to read" by Doman. Then I found Felicity's reading video on You Tube and ended up here. Its nice to find all the support in teaching babies. I have had some negative feedback from some that I've told. So now I keep it between me and my husband. I look forward to chating with you all, and will keep you updated on Janelle's progress.
