My son is 15 mo, and he has started pushing away the cards. I can get hom to do 2-3 cards at a time (doind Doman, said that may be all you can get at this age.) I just started doing some of the ppt slideshows from here (the Doman style ones, but words on one slide, pics on the next.) He really likes it. He's fascinated with the keyboard on the laptop. His favorite ones are the animal slideshow with animal sounds. I'm saving up for LR. But the ppt shows are a good way to tintroduce him for this style of learning.
So keep trying different mediums.

I am an ICU nurse- I work on weekends and stay at home with the kids during the week. The best of both worlds I suppose, but Mommy doesn't get much of a break. I plan on going back to school for my Masters- nurse practitioner- when both kids are in elementary school.

I stopped at 12 months. I was sick of pumping at work. I would have kept the bedtime nursing. But one breast completely dired up, and he lost interest. Kudos that keep it up! I really liked it, but now I realize how convenient my life is without it. To each their own!

Hey thanks! That means a lot to me! Not everyone is so thrilled about the home school idea. My siblings are against the idea, my mom thinks that I'm crazy (that by the time that my oldnest is six that I will want nothing more than to send him to school to save my sanity), my mother-in-law has no idea, (she always talks about how nice it will be when I am able to send my kids to school) and the girls at work think that children who are homeschooled don't get socialized and that they will turn out weird. I try my best to ignore everyone. I personally know about ten very well adjusted and smart home schooled adults and teenagers. That makes since about shapes and reading skills! I am not creative enough, or organized enough to homeschool. Nor do I have the patience!! I will say my daughter was painfully shy, even though we did playdates and outings. She needed to go socialize outside of my presence. And she has blossomed in preschool. But I would like to enhace her learning and do projects and help with learning. But I'd say go for it. At least until they outsmart you! (Then send them to college.) I really respect people who homeschool- it has got to be hard work. And rewarding. Angie

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: how many?

If you show her numbers 1, 2, 3 etc, it may be too abstract. Be sure to then show her a quantity to go with that number- have it be a quantity of something they are interseted in. Have you read Doman math? Or do you have LM? I've read that the older they are, the more boring they find flashcards of numbers. So you may need something more creative.
