We are just starting out to teach (ie. homeschooling) at home and I was wondering whether any/whom among us continue to teach during family getaway/vacations? We are leaving the country for a week and I am wondering if I should take curriculum along.

I understand this as different from learning - because they are learning all the time. I'm thinking about the work I'm to do/prepare and keep doing while on vacation.... doesn't that make it NOT a break?

 

Forgive me for all the questions, I'm new to this and just starting out so i keep finding myself stumped at many steps!

We kinda started doing physical flashcards we were given first before I got Doman's book to read. Somehow I read online that we'd be doing 15 words a day. I thought that was a bit much at lowered it to 10 and that was the number we start with in each set. I now know its supposed to be 5.

BUT, my daughter concentration span seems to be okay doing 10 cards per set. On the videos I've seen of babies reading flashcards exercises, they seem to be doing more than 5.

So, does anyone else do more than 5 cards per set? Would you recommend we keep it at 10 or should I be bringing it down to 5 as directed?

We do the following schedule:

7am 10 chinese words
730am 5 Encyclopedic knowledge (we started this AFTER I read the book)
8am 10 Baby Signing flashcards
4pm 10 chinese words
6pm 10 Baby Signing flashcards

Thanks, thats an idea - to use the same stuff but maybe wait a while later to reintroduce it in the 2nd language.

If you natural/home language is English, would you then spend more time focused on Chinese since I presume logically, the child would pick up English just by home usage as well or would you put equal time to it?

If my child isn't verbal yet, how do I know if he is ready (if I'm not testing?)

What do other parents do to assess progress?

I've posted a few questions already and am still getting a feel how best to implement Little Reader at home. We're a mac-based family and no Windows PC except at work so I'm using it mostly on LR Lite and throwing it on the TV I think using Apple TV or iPad on the go.

We're an English Speaking family which Chinese as a second language. And I am an educator with 10 years of teaching background from 3 year old an onwards. I started teaching kids phonetically and have seen lots of success doing that so this is new to me. Now that I have my own kids, it becomes a bigger buy-in!

I already know Chiense is not a phonetic language so that's why I'm going into this for Chinese. Yet, I also want to teach my girl how to read English soon. Looking forward to hearing from this large community on how to give my kids the best possible learning environment

So, if I understand correctly, even if I have Pro I cannot transfer these from LR PC Pro to LR Touch. Is that right?
If I wanted to modify a lesson on LR Pro (say, add my photo to Mummy/daddy/Grandparents) is it possible to transfer that to the LR Touch?

What about syncing progerss ont he same curriculum across different tablet/phones?

Is there a sync function enabled between apps/tablets? We are on the go and i would like to sometimes do lessons on the iPad in the car (which stays in the car and has internet connection) and then continue with session 2 at home picking up where we left off.

I wanted to know if people have tried teaching 2 languages consecutively?

We are an English speaking household so LO's native language is in English. We want her to learn Mandarin and so have started lessons for that. But i also panther to start learning to read in Chinese.

Wondering how confusing it would be to them to do languages at the same time? Like if we learnt "nose" both in Chinese and in English...

or tried using the same software to teach her both English and Chinese at the same time?
