Hi, it all depends on what your budget is. If you really wet him something which has great apps, then why not go for the IPad? It has some fabulous apps for training the memory (photographic), number and letter games, Maths and also tonnes of stuff for Right Brain stimulation. Apps are not too expensive too, AND the screen is big. And you can have it for your own personal use too.(what more?)

Hi, you can also start off with LR and LM... and supplement with Preschool Prep (I LOVE these videos), my son learned all his colour/ shapes and some sight words from it very quickly. Also has Letters/Numbers/Phonics. 12mo can start off with letters.
If you're up to the work, you can also try manual flashcarding (Doman method), which is great as you can carry it around wherever you go and it only takesa couple of minutes each time. That's great Right Brain Stimulation.
And lastly, don't forget Play, Play and Play... some structured, and some unstructured. Works wonderfully for Fine/Gross motor skills and Social skills.

Hi! I'm from Malaysia too. I actually purchased LR/LM packaged set online. There was a good discount then, I think it was 10percent off or something like that. Came up to roughly RM800 plus for both. Even without the discount, it was alot cheaper.
If I'm not mistaken, if you purchase it locally, it's almost double the price. Worked out well for me, you can PM me for more details.

I don't think it's too late at all, as long as your DD is able to concentrate on the flashing words (even if she doesn't. the Brillkids Little Reader software is great for customization, so she most probably will enjoy it!)
My DS started when he was 19 months old, he's 23 plus months old now and (still) LOVES it! And I'm also proud to say that he is also able to recognize quite a few words, Something he wasn't able to do before. I supplement with YBCR too.

Hi Miriam, I started LR/YBCR for my DS quite late, when he was 1 plus mo, and for my DD when she was 9 mo. it's now 4 months later and although my DS doesn't read the single words which appear on LR, he does recognize and read at least 30-40 words on YBCR. So, I'm not sure if he just enjoys YBCR more, and I also have not tested LR. With my DD, who's 11mo now, it's the other way around. She has already shown word recognition to 4-5 words by action with LR but not with YBCR.
It works differently with individual children, DS has a superb boost in his vocabulary after introducing these programs. He now speaks in 5 word sentences, and with correct grammar too. Maybe with him, it's just because I started when he's older, so verbalizing the word becomes easier.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / SCREEN TIME - how much is too much?

Hi All, I'm having a little trouble with my 23mo DS. Of late, he seems to be "addicted" to the computer, and can sit for almost an hour at a go, watching LR/LM/YBCR etc. When I stop these educational programs and do my own work, he throws a tantrum until I click on "his" programs - the early learning stuff. This happens in the mornings, after his nap, and also in the evenings and night. He has plenty of outdoor time too (I make sure he does) and Montessori activities and loves it, but the way he concentrates on the PC when his programs are on worries me a little, he doesn't hear or listen to instruction then, he's completely GLUED. He can go on and on, sometimes repeatedly watching the same thing if I don't change it. I have read on multiple occasions how too much screen time is bad for little kids... I was just wondering if I should be worried about this.

Thanks Nikita, links seem pretty good, although my DS may not have much use for it now... I love storing these things for future use, so I don't run helter skelter when the time comes.... Do keep us updated on more info!!!

Hi Larry, I have an 11 month old who used to love books too until roughly 2 months ago, when she started to crawl, walk etc... now all she's interested is discovering her surroundings... well, LR and all other programs are still hit, but I guessed the monotony of " reading books" were boring her.Animatedly reading the books didn't help either... so guess what? I started SINGING the books out loud to her, while running my fingers under the words (similar to when I read to her). I also realize that when I sing in rhythm, she likes it better, AND concentrates on the book. I can get through plenty of books this way... babies love music in any form, I guess. Hope this helps!
