Dear Melanie, Thx for your encouragement. From where we come from, it's normal to speak at least 3 languages plus afew dialects. So it could be a little confusing for now, but my bb understands instructions in Chinese & she say things out in English ie, fish, bear, cat, car park, bag, bird, duck, dog etc. We also read out Bible verses printed out & when I recite she knows which one & point to it. Hope she will read out soon, we will keep it up, thx again ! Latreia

Happy to know your bb can read ! Just at day 55 too. I started my bb with LR at 11 months & now at day 72. My girl knows her body parts too when asked but she does not say out the words/read. I just want to know if any parents/all of you parents sit down beside bb to repeat the words to bb ? Also the multisensory part, do you all take the time or just auto forward that part like myself ? Any good suggestions for me as I am also very eager to see my bb start reading too ! Thx in advance..

I guess you guys who paid for LR in USD should be very grateful as all you pay is USD 400 ++ We in Malaysia have to pay RM1,600 for the whole set of LR deluxe, LC & LM. Coparing dollar to dollar, we fork out alot considerably as RM1,600 is one month's salary, maybe even more to alot of Malaysians. We should always be grateful

On days that I dont work, my hubby will let me sleep late till after 10am. Then we will switch & he will go lie down for an hour or more; he is the full time home-maker. We always try to fit in an hour of outdoor activities in the park, running with our bb in the evening. My 15 m/o is very active, runs on her own, not wanting to be carried. Believe me, this makes her very tired & after dinner & milk, she will lie flat like a log ! She will sleep til the next morning. This is very good excercise for us parents too.. Always fit in excercise as this will make everyone very energetic !

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: 2012 Book Challenge

Hi All ! What a challenge for 2012 ! I just wondered when I should start reading a real book to my 15 m/o girl. Because she will bite into whatever books i give or show to her, even thick small booklets. I would like to start her on LR 25 story books but worried that it will all be torn before she can read them. Any advice ? BTW, she has been on LR, LM & LC for 4 months now, half an hour, twice a day. Thx alot !

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Little Reader (Chinese)-- Simplified or Traditional?
|

I agree with Oaita. simplified is created by mainland chinese, & most words (if not all) had lost its original meaning. Just a few exampls here : love (ai) in traditional (TC) has a heart in it but simplified (SC), the heart is gone, replaced by a friend & how could we love without oue hearts ? FYI, TC words is like a written picture, which you can make up the meaning looking at the picture, provided you know a little of the language. Next is the word listen (ting), in TC there is a ear+a heart, which means you must listen with your ears + using your heart. Beautiful, is it not.. But in SC, it is cut down to a mouth+kilograme(weight), so I always say the youngsters nowadays dont listen but put in lots of arguments (mouth) when we say something to them instead. I learnt a little TC when I was young, it is still in use in HK & Taiwan. I am glad it is preserved that way there. Elsewhere, it has gone SC, at least officially. Personally, I prefer my bb to know TC first as later on she can catch up SC everywhere, as I think a beautiful language full of the original meanings should be learnt, also it is a good way to teach moral too. you will soon find out later

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Share your curriculum ideas

Hi, I have thought of homeschooling my 14m/o bb, but here in Malaysia, it is not the norm. Moreover, it is not easy to get the resources & what curiculum to follow exactly i dont know. My girl picks up pretty fast & to go to Grade 1 at 7 y/o, i think it's too late for her, also becos i had started her on LR,LM,LC 2 months alrdy. Anyone who has used books no longer to be used, for toddlers/young kids (h.school subjects), pls PM me ok. Thx

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: My Little Boy is WALKING!
|
on: November 24, 2011, 05:04:04 PM

Is it what they say is true about boys being slower than girls in talking & walking ? Is it alright for babies to start to walk around 11 m/o & start running at 13 m/o, or is it better to start later ? Do all these matter as to their overall well being ( physical / mental / emotion ) later in life ?
