Hello to everyone! I am also a Filipino mom! I am new to BrillKids, but I have been kind of addicted to the forum ever since I joined. I love it! It gives me time to relax when the little one is busy taking a nap. I am also a single mom to a 5-month old babygirl, so sleep and rest is kind of limited. I am really happy that I have found this...It has given me time to unwind during my free time. Thanks a lot BrillKids. And Lappy, thanks for the Welcome email. By the way, how exactly do I sign up for that Early Learning Essential mailing list? Hi MFuego! Welcome to Brillkids! I'm also a Filipino living in Quezon City. Where are you located?

Congratulations! You must be elated! :-)
Keep an eye for another favorite toy/activity and make a flashcard for it. Be it "Elmo" or "Pooh", just as long as he's interested with it.
If he likes jumping, make the word "jumping" on the flashcard and show it to him AFTER he does it (jumping). This way, is interest is already in the action, he will be more receptive to the flashcard you'll shown him since it is about what he is already doing.
That's what I did for my DD. She likes to act first then I just followed-up her actions with flashcards. She liked to "spin" so I made a flashcard right away and she learned it in just 1 or 2 showings, no need for many repetition.
I'm very happy for you!

Deliberately stunting your child's growth is one of the worst things you can do! If he comes out to be a genius, that is his gift. We as parents, have NO right interfering to stunt it. If your child has been gifted with the most beautiful face, would you scar him to make him uglier in hopes to avoid possible complications associated with extraordinary beauty?
What you can do, if I may humbly suggest, is focus on nurturing his emotional growth. If he has a good EQ, he will be happy even if he IS different. If you teach him how to master his feelings, all the difficulties he may have will just make him stronger. He will realize that there is so much more to learn than just academics.

Yes, ASL rocks! My DD is not so much into speaking yet but can speak a few words. She is more into actions - signing, walking, climbing, etc
What's interesting is that some of the words in the video are newly printed and shown to her only once (thank you, bye-bye). I showed them to her the night before and "tested" the next morning and she remembered them :-)
She knows at least 20 more words (train, balloon, window, closet, etc) but can't sign or speak them yet so I didn't include them in the test. She can, however, pick the right word from a group of other words.

HOW CUTE!!!!!!!!! Congratulation..your hard work is paying off! It is excited...good job mom.happy happy happy for you.Keep it up. Hi Great video and impressive reading by Cammie! Just wanted to share how our 11 month old is also reading. We use YBCR and figured out Tobias can read when on a whim we set up his toy animals on the floor and showed him a flash card with one of the toy animal's name on it (for example "elephant") To our surprise,Tobias would then pick out the animal! We thought it was by chance, but when we tried with other cards, he consistently picks out the correct toy animal to match the card. The excitement is definitely contagious. Thank you for sharing your experience. Thank you guys! It's every parent's joy to impart knowledge to their little ones but seeing them learn this fast..it's just amazing! Congratulations to Tobias too! :-)

Wow...a huge congratulations to you! This is so inspiring to newbies like me! I have just started teaching my 11 month girl to read. I wanted to ask you something .... does your gorgeous little one do the actions to the words because when teaching her to read you also taught her the actions or because she associates them to actions that she has learnt on other occasions?
Hi! We're honored to have serve as an inspiration! When we saw Cammie doing different actions (like "kick", "clap"), I started reinforcing the words that she's doing. I show them (word flashcard) to her frequently, focusing on those while continuing her other lessons. She imitates the actions from YBCR and LR. Good-luck with your precious baby. 11-mos is still young. No doubt that she will absorb everything that you teach her. More power!

Definitely! Another angel to love, another creature to give wonder and joy! In our case, the financial issue is the biggest factor to consider but that aside, I'm all for having a second child. Not only it will add to your 1st child's social life but will make a huge difference in everyone's life as well.

Congratulations, Nadia! Keep it up! What a cute little genius! It's a blessing to have a supporting husband too!
Yes, having a supportive husband is really a blessing! The idea of educating babies here in my country is so unheard-of! I wouldn't not be able to teach Cammie if not for the support of my DH :-) Most, if not ALL of my relatives here thinks I am "experimenting" with my child hahaha!

hey Congrats !! Thats very impressive. I have a 16 month old. She loves Little reader a lot. She likes it so much that she just wants to go on and on. She can see 10-15 categories/playlists (80-90 words) at a time. She never wants to stop watching. She cries when I turn it off. But inspite of this I havent seen any signs of her reading. First of all I am not sure if she should be seeing so many words at a time. But I have to keep playing as she cries otherwise. I have been showing her LR since she was 9 months. Let me know your suggestions on this.
It's great that your DD has great love for learning and has equally great attention span! Sometimes I let Cammie watch as long as she wants, other times I limit the videos to 10min per viewing time. Personally, I think there's no harm in letting your daughter watch for slightly longer periods as long as she is interested just make it a point to "reinforce" what she have watched by focusing on certain word/s per day. For example, I make 2 or 3 flashcards based on the words in the category that she has already watched. I play games with the flashcards, show them to her at unexpected times and act very excited when I show them. I show the same cards for 3 or more days and make another batch. We don't follow an exact schedule. Contrary to the what others may suggest, I allow 1-3 days of "rest" period from time to time and when I show LR or YBCR, she always is very excited as if she missed the so much :-)
