thanks a lot, i found your replies very helpful. i put her in her bouncer and opened the curtain so she could look in the back garden, also yesterday, we went on a stroll to the park and instead of putting her in the buggy, i used the forward facing baby carrier so she could look around, and she really seemed to enjoy both. so i guess for now i'll stick with the tummy time and soft toys. thanks a lot.

I use HOP. coincidentally that's what we're watching at the moment.
I used it to teach my son to read when he was 4+, and it was really amazing cos he went thru the levels really quickly and he's a really good reader now. It just teaches letter sounds and blending and it teaches it in stages so the child can build up steadily. there's also a good reward system that makes it exciting for them and he actually used to look foward to the next lesson. I got the HOP for babies for my Lo who's 3months old, basically at that level HOP is just to stimulate a love for reading and not really teaching. She enjoys listening to the songs. It's useful if you want to teach phonics.
By the way how old is your daughter?
Hope this helps a bit.

hello everyone. my daughter is 3months in 2 days and i'm just wondering what i can star doing with her. we've been doing the tummy time, she doesn't seem to like it much though, she maages to crawl a few centimeters and that's it. i've also stared a bit of signing with her - milk, bath and nappy change. once in a while we do the flashcards, but LR is supposed to be from 4months isn't it. i'm just really excited about teaching her, but at the same time i dont want to be too pushy, so do you think 3months is too early to start the flascards. thanks for your time.

First I'd like to say, don't blame yourself and never even entertain the thought of being a bad mom, you're trying your best and that's all you can do.
My son went to nursery as well, and it was really good interacting with other kids and adults, it's good for their self esteem and confidence. my friend's kids that never went to nursery are so shy and withdrawn.
you could decide to wai till he can talk or at least communicate somehow. whatever you decide, it'll work out in the end, trust me!

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Is having a second child important?

like you said, it's a matter of pesonal choice, but I definitely think having a 2nd child is important, not necesarily for you, but for the child. It's nice to have someone else to share life with, to look out for each other and it helps the child to be more tolerant in life. I think a decent age gap is good but definitely more than one.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Affirmations? are they really useful for young kids ? are we wasting time?

I think they're extremely useful, not only for children, but for adults as well. Imagine the effect negative words have on people, most adults that commit crime or don't amount to anything have had negatve words spoken to them by their parents or figures of authority. I was just going to do some personal recordings of words of affirmation and play it in both my children's rooms when they're asleep.

hello there! I have a 5year old and a 3month old that I'm still breast feeding exclusively at the moment. i b-fed my 5year old exclusively for 4months and then went on to formula till he was 6months and then solid foods after that. I continued breast feeding till he was 10months in this time, I was restricting his breast feeding to only night time and evevntually cut off.It was hard for both of us, he would just cry for a long time and I was getting engorged, but I just let him cry for a while and after 3 days he got the message and he stopped crying for it. I plan to do the same with my daughter as well. Hopefully I would get some good advice here as well on how best to do it. Hope it all goes well for both of you.
