Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: potting training

our baby is using potty since a few days old, so it is totally possible... She loves it too, and definetly it was hers and not ours idea Potty time is a highlight of her day, she is the happiest little thing doing it, and since she is not using diapers it makes it so much easier, - no messes, no diaper rush... So it is definetly worth the try, I think it is easier when you start earlier... Here is the link to EC ( Elimination Communication) Forum Thread from Mothering.com http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=227Ithink there are some good advice and tips from those who did it, or actually had to potty train in infancy or even older...

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Content download section suggestion
|

In our account management, under content download section ( where we have all our files that we have downloaded for our learning systems), it will be great to have divisions ( similar to how we have it in library download section), like art, music, word flash, etc. It will make it easier to manage them and to look for the files that you need when you need them among the ones that you have downloaded already. With the quantity of files growing ( and it is only the beginning with premium content coming up, members contributing more, etc), it will make it so much easier and tidier... What do you think? Just an idea

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: managing words within category and playlists

Thank you, KL, for detailed reply! Looks like it will work to do what I am planning to. Sounds great! Will try creating my playlists now. As far as bits, I think it will work to have it the way you described ( you did understand correctly what I wanted to do), and I am thinking having different levels rotating anyways, so as long as I can have multiple picture audios it sounds good. Is it possible to have multiple written sentences to go along with these audios ( so it is not just an audio but also a written sentense of that bit)? So sometimes I would have the audio with bit playing while I am showing the picture and sometimes there will be a written sentense there? Sorry if that sounds confusing, I am just trying to figure it out myself

I have a question, may be it was answered already, but I do not seem to find and answer... I am putting together categories with my own photos and prononciation. Since I do not have all the materials for the categories just yet, I am adding a few words at a time. With eventual goal to have these resources and to start showing these categories to my baby. Is there a function where we can chose which words from the category we would prefer to show at any particular time. Or is there a possibility to create playlist using SOME words from category, and then another playlist using other words from the same category. Lets say I will continue adding new words to the category called "animals", then I would like to show 5 of the words at one session and 5 at another, is it possible to use the category as a place to collect all the related words ( animals in this case) and then create playlists, that will use some of the words from this category? If it is, how do I do it? I hope I am clear with this question..
Another questions. What if I would want to add bits of knowledge to each picture. Is it possible to add a few bits to each picture and then later when you want to show these pictures/words to the child have an option where I chose which level or bit of knowledge I would like to show?

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Don't Bother -- Little Vent

Agree with Twin Energy, All children are different, and raising siblings definetly shows that! My husband comes from large family, -- oldest of 7 and then his parents had another "set" of 6 They all were getting similar education and parenting, but all are completely different in their preferences, skills, etc. So what works for one child not necessary will work for another, and it is impossible to judge the "progress" of a child simply comparing him to another one the same age, or making generalised comments or conclusions. As far as early learning, I think all the children want to learn and full of vacuum for new, this is a game for them. However different ones have different preferences, so someone who might not have as much interest for early reading, might have an outstanding desire to learn all he can about music and really takes that in. Some have more of what we call "all-rounded" interest. But it is true, most people I meet, really dont know much about early education, and are pretty closed minded, not wanting to know either. I just think that, letting the sample speak for itself, what will work in a long run. Those who are open minded and interested will ask questions and we can have great discussions, and those who are clossed minded will not be "persuaded" anyways, they already made their minds, so it is not worth it. I think, just having joy in giving our children the best we can give, having fun doing it, and loving them for who they are, is the most important, not opinions of others. After all, there will always be some kind of opposition, if you do something different.

Thank you, Nikki, great list! K2U! Yes, we are doing quite a bit already, -- LR, LM, starting flashcards, listening to Russian, Chinese and English ( poetry, songs, dramas, Bible), my husband and I wear her a lot in a sling, so we explain what we do ( she loves that her new thing now to touch everything that we are working with, like dishes, when I wash dishes with her in a sling ), she watches my husband playing classical guitar (would follow his fingers and hums, and I think now this is her favourite activity, so we cant wait for Little Musician to be released).... Reading poems and small books.. What are the motor skill activities? (She just learned to put her pacifier in her mouth from all different positions, and really excited about it every time it works , are there any specific activities that help motor skills at this age? Or Montessory activities? I know there are some for much older children... Any ideas?
