BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: LR stopped working

Hello Nadia, In order to have your Russian translations play instead of the original English words, I suggest that you edit the words from the English Categories (just change the "Word(s)" in the Edit Word window). Please DO NOT change the "word file name" especially if you're editing the original English Categories - if you do this, then LR will not work! If you translate all your Categories this way (by changing only the "Word(s)"), you will be able to show Russian words (instead of the English words) when you play your Semester 1 and 2 courses. Kindly note, however, that by changing the words in your original English Categories you will lose the original set of English words that come with your Little Reader content. This is why KL strongly recommends that you create a copy of your English Categories first and work on the copy for your translation (please refer to KL's May 13 post above). I hope this clears things up for you

Hello grasshopper, Kindly try to remove your K-Lite Codec (and better FFDSHOW too), and then re-install FFDSHOW and see if it helps. To uninstall K-Lite and FFDSHOW: - From your START Menu, open your Control Panel
- Go to 'Add or Remove Programs'
- From the list of programs, find and select 'K-Lite Codec'
- Click on the 'Remove' button and follow the prompts to uninstall it
* You may do the same for 'ffdshow' To re-install FFDSHOW: - Download and install the codec pack at http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/ffdshow-codec-pack.exe (in case you don't have the file anymore)
- During setup, there will be a page called "Select Additional Tasks", and you will see "Decode the following video formats with ffdshow" and "Decode the following audio formats with ffdshow". PLEASE CHECK BOTH BOXES.
- After finishing installation, no need to do anything else. Just reboot Windows and give it a try (or may not need to reboot Windows, but at least restart Little Reader).
I hope this fixes the problem - do let me know how this works for you!

Hi drool_drool, Can you try playing the 'Parts of Body 1' Category and see if you get the same problem when "face" is played? To do this, kindly open Little Reader, go to the Playback screen and choose to display Categories. Open the 'Chinese Course Semester 1' folder and play the 'Parts of the Body 1' Category - do the "face" pictures display properly? Are you able to at least preview the pictures? You may also check any other category randomly in case you get the same problem. If you'd like you may also post a screen shot here (especially if you're getting an error message): http://forum.brillkids.com/forum-how-tos-and-faqs/how-to-do-a-screenshot/msg4830/#msg4830If you are getting a "media files missing" or a similar error message, please check your 'My Documents \ BrillKids \ Little Reader \ Media Library' folder if you do have those files in your computer, but they are just not displaying properly in Little Reader (e.g., 'bk-face-1.jpg') - let us know if this is the case. Meanwhile, you may try re-importing your content from your Content Discs and see if that helps.

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: mouse and/or keyboard to advance
|
on: June 08, 2010, 09:04:07 AM
|
Hi Stieglitz, By default, the keyboard is locked during lesson playback (this is for both the Courses and Categories) - but you can always turn the keyboard lock off (and then turn the mouse lock on) if you prefer using your keyboard instead! To do this, simply go to the Playback Screen, select a Course or Category and then find the mouse and keyboard lock buttons in the left side of the Play Panel. Just click once on the keyboard lock to turn it off (the light should turn red) and also on the mouse lock to turn it on (the light should turn green). You should then be able to move through each lesson slide using your keyboard.

Hi grasshopper, This error might be caused by the codecs your computer uses to process media files. Try downloading and installing the following codec pack (very commonly used and widely known FFDSHOW codec pack) to see if it helps: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/ffdshow-codec-pack.exeDuring setup, there will be a page called "Select Additional Tasks", and you will see "Decode the following video formats with ffdshow" and "Decode the following audio formats with ffdshow" - PLEASE CHECK BOTH BOXES. After finishing installation, no need to do anything else. Just reboot Windows and give it a try (or may not need to reboot Windows, but at least restart Little Reader). If this doesn't help, kindly send us a Diagnostic Report by attaching it to your reply here. To create a Diagnostic Report: - From your START Menu, go to 'All Programs'
- Open the 'BrillKids' folder
- Open the 'Little Reader' folder
- Find and run the 'Diagnostic' tool
- A black window will display collecting your system information. Please be patient during this process. - Once the Diagnostic tool has finished, it will open up a window containing a file named "Little Reader_[DATE].zip"
- Attach this file to your reply (simply click on the 'Choose File' button at the bottom of your post composition page and locate this file)
I hope to hear from you soon!

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: Download of semester 2
|
on: June 07, 2010, 03:59:01 AM
|
Hi advaya, Can you clarify if you have imported your Semester 2 content file - did you double-click on the content file after downloading it? If you haven't done this step yet, kindly double-click on the file you've downloaded previously to import your Semester 2 lessons to Little Reader (or you can simply insert your Semester 2 Content Disc which is included in your LR Deluxe Kit). You may also check if your Semester 1 lessons are complete (there should be lessons for Day 001 up to Day 130 in the Semester 1 course) - if you only have lessons until Day 009, then you should also import your Semester 1 content. If your Semester 2 course still does not appear in the 'Courses' drop-down list in LR, do let me know

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: Upgrading LR
|

Hi Ayesha, To create backup files for your lessons in Little Reader, simply do the following: - Open LR and go to the Import/Export screen
- In the 'Export' area, click on the 'Categories' radio button to display your Categories
- Select the item/s you want to export - you can select many items at a time by holding down your SHIFT or CONTROL (CTRL) key while clicking on the Categories you want to export
- Choose to export the media files attached to your lessons by checking the boxes for each media type in the 'Content' area (left side of the screen)
- Click on the EXPORT button
- Type in a filename for your exported file and choose where you'd like the file to be saved in your computer (by default, exported files are saved in the 'My Documents\BrillKids\Little Reader\Import-Export' folder)
- Click on SAVE
To upgrade your Little Reader, kindly go to this page (make sure that you are already signed in to your BrillKids Account): http://www.brillkids.com/user/#software-systems/little-reader/indexSTEP 1: SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD Click on the 'Download the latest version of Little Reader' button to download your software installer. After downloading, open the file and double click on 'Little_Reader_install.exe' to begin the installation process. STEP 2: LICENSE KEYS + ACTIVATION Download your license key and double-click on it to activate Little Reader. Your software should open automatically (if it's not open already) and import the license key for you. STEP 3: CONTENT DOWNLOAD Simply download all the content files you need and open them once you have finished downloading - note that downloading large files may take a while. Once you've successfully upgraded your Little Reader, you should still have your lessons in LR (if not, you can simply import them back by double-clicking on your backup files). I hope this helps! P.S. In case you need detailed instructions on how to use the Import/Export screen or the rest of Little Reader's features, you may refer to the LR Help Manual in http://www.brillkids.com/support/little-reader-manual.php or by clicking the 'Manual' button in LR

Hello bayla, Kindly download the following file and see if it helps: http://d2.brillkids.com/upload/files/MaxLocksPerFile.zipYou will need to extract a file called 'MaxLocksPerFile.reg' inside this .zip file using an extracting program. In case you don't have an extracting program yet, you may download WinRAR here: http://www.rarlab.com/To extract the file, simply find the 'MaxLocksPerFile.zip' you've just downloaded, right-click on it, and choose 'Extract Here.' Double-click on the 'MaxLocksPerFile.reg' file to run it (make sure that Little Reader is closed before doing this). Once you're done running the .reg file, you may open your Little Reader and try importing lesson content files again. I hope this solves the problem!

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: New Laptop : How to reload my LR and LM

May i know when importing, can i mass importing the old files or i have import those files individually? (Its alot!) [ I click on Import/Export Icon where i choose the files to be imported to Little Reader, i can only choose 1 file at a time ] is there a faster way?
Hi juicyfruits, You can actually export many Categories/Playlists at a time with LR's Import/Export function -- just click on one item (say, the very first in the list), press and hold your SHIFT key, click on the very last item in the list (to highlight everything), and then click on the EXPORT button! This way you'll have everything in one export file, so you can just import everything to your new laptop in one go. You can also export by batches of 10-20 items, etc.
