hi

my son is a year and 8 months. he uses words and can sing tommy thumb completely but does not use sentences. i havent thought him sign language. will it be too late to introduce it now?

its wonderful to have supportive people around but teaching reading can seem strange to many.

my family dont live near us but we chat often. i have mentioned that Sa'ad is learning to read but not too much because i know that my excitement can be mistaken for bragging. my mom is quite supportive of my efforts and encourages me to teach my child.

TV hasnt been an issue for me because we all know of the negative effects the tele can have. one thing ive realised though is that i cant influence another on the way they choose to raise their child. we are all different with different ideas of what we want out of them. most people respect how i raise Sa'ad i guess mostly because i accept their way.

people do find a child not watching cartoons on tv weird but a friends child told me that he couldnt wait to watch "joey" the sitcom and hes only 5. therefore i dont want my son to channel surf or watch anything without me there. he only watches reading dvds and little einsteins

i think that there are many programmes out there and their will always be new ones. however the key to any programme is consistency. if you guys combine these programmes to a way were your child is happy and comfortable and learning then its fine but if you are going to use a programme just because you bought it and feel that you need to get your monies worth then that may not be such a great idea. use the key of consistency and you may find a combination which works well for both you and child. there are other researched and proven ways of teaching. you just have to find a way were it will work for you.

for me personally however i have just stuck with the doman technique but i have used other types of flashcards. i have even adapted doman to suit my needs and lifestyle.

my new years resolution is to show more gratitude.
gratitude for everything that i know regarding my kids and otherwise.
gratitude for this website as i stumbled on it by chance and if i didnt Sa'ad wouldnt be reading.
gratitude for my husband friends and family and the fact that i have the internet (so many people dont coz they cant afford it)

i am going to start exercising. my muscle tone has no tone at all and i am tired all the time. perfect time to start

how was the matric results. wont mention!!
the homeschooling is great because you get to teach them anything but there is a trade off.

nikolett have you come to terms with the fact that you are sacrificing your life to make your kids life better? do you feel okay with doing this? do you ever get frustrated at times? what do you do if you get frustrated?

i'd like to know from you how do you wind down or do you wind down.
me time is important for us mums because a happy mom equals happy child and our children want us to be happy.
we have to take care of ourselves. i usually rent a funny movie and watch it when my son is asleep. i also make a 4 o clock cup of coffee or tea a must. i also make sure i take my vitamins and eat well.

would like some new ideas on how to relax though

in the process of making dot cards and ive spent so much already!
ive got about 40 more to make and i cant find those red dots that ive used anywhere! i dont want to use another brand because they wont be the same or look the same.

deep in my heart i feel like school isnt for me but the thought of homeschooling seems so daunting. but if you look at it i guess i am already homeschooling!

what social activities do you have lined up for your kids? what schooling curriculum are you using?
the more i think about it as i am typing this i am more convinced that school is not for me. are you flexible with your times or do u have a rigid 8 to 2.

kimba15 , in South Africa i know of montessori pre schools but not of a whole schooling system. i'd like considering that option because i run a mum and baby school and therefore work but it is incredibly flexi. i will however look out for it here.

i want my son to have more opportunities than i did. my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and i wanted to become an oncologist but my results werent good enough to do that. i hope that my son can do what he loves.
