Well I know this can differs a lot from country to country. Here in Brazil and also in Argentina and Uruguay we have Pampers and Huggies.

They are the best in the market and there is also a local brand that is as good as those ones. I think that in the first months you should try the better known brands just like Pampers and Huggies and then later try something else if you think it's worthy.

Since me and my wife work full-time, today homeschooling is not an option. But I find it interesting and my main concern is socialization and local laws. I liked what Tanikit wrote about socialization.

I've been hearing too much about Rosetta Stone. Your opinion made me want this for me. It's been more than 12 years that I'm learning German at a very slow pace.

My baby first word was "licht", the German word for "light". After that was two words: "all done"

Just as KeriBerry, I'd also like to have the Freezing Time Power.

My reason would be to try to solve some problems of my city.

Our experience:

0m: Portuguese and English as main languages and a little bit of German from some part of the family
3m: we started to do activities from the book Slow and Steady Get Me Ready
4m: Sign Language and some Leapfrog Videos like Phonics Farm
5m: he started attending a full-time school / day care (we had no option since me and my wife work all day)
6m: We started reading and pointing words on books
1.5y: just know I see that there are some regular programs for Maths, Reading and Music, so I'm starting now.

Before that, I always used to teach maths counting steps, things, etc.
For music I had nothing serious beside of singing. We also had him to watch our Choir trainning from 2m to 9 months.

By the way, this topic is a great idea! 

Just FYI, Calvert & Laurel Springs (another similar school) are having virtual open houses between jan 22-24.You can sign up on their website, Calvert has several dates available, I believe. Laural Springs has a decent "gifted" program in the later years. Both are sort of homeschool/sort of answering to a teacher private school from what I can tell.

I like the idea of pursuing a distance program for grades 1-5 or heavily afterschooling for grades 1-5, *possibly* enrolling them in a TAG private school program from 6-8, and then aim for a high end boarding college prep school for 9-12. A heavy emphasis on music, art, and sport in the afternoon will hopefully develop well rounded individuals with at least one area beyond academics where they really shine. I am possibly open to high caliber gifted and talented programs should the road lead them there.

What do you think about afterschooling? I mean, how many hours a day do you think it would be necessary without bothering or pushing the kid too hard?
I ask because I have the same opinion. I also like Laurel Springs but I don't plan to have my kid away from a regular Brazilian school. I have talked to Laurel Springs and they said that when my kid get there (in that age), it could be an option for a part time school (and thus with the effect of afterschooling).

Something I really miss here is an internal like button. I mean: not a Facebook Like button for an URL, but an internal like for the forum so we can value good topics and replies, as we can do in a Facebook Group.
