EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Wanted - More Spanish LR Files
|
on: March 25, 2010, 10:37:08 PM
|
We have watched 90% of the Spanish LR files and we are getting bored.
Please, someone with spanish knowledge, make more.
Since I am just learning spanish with my dd, pronounication is a MUST. It also helps to have clear pictures and/or english subtitles to help me with the vocab. I have liked a lot of the files, and a few of my favourite authors are anyta84, joha, py, laidalays, and bebita. If you are interested in making more files, I would appreciate that.
Since we basically only know the words on LR, there is lots to learn, but if you need ideas: Tall/Short Big/Small Hot/Cold Light/Dark Night/Day On/Off In/Out On/Under Over/Below Star/Moon Chair/Desk Pen/Pencil/Crayon/Paper Clothing Items - socks, shoes, pants, shirts, jackets, sweaters, hats, mittens, dresses Food - Avocoda, spagetti, carrots, beans, corn, cucumber, peas, cauliflower, beets, parsnips, turnips, toast, jam, peanuts, peanutbutter, granola bar, crakers.
I could go on forever, but I hope someone out there hears my plea. Thanks.

I would suggest restarting the math cards. I believe math has a shorter/smaller window of opportunity than reading flashcards. Also, you already have the math materials, so that will be less work than starting the reading program. Start the math program and then behind the scenes work on preparing for the reading.
If you have time for 2 items, the second item I would work on after math would be some physical activity. Physical activity doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as wallking around the block every day. I suggest the physical stuff because the brain depends on the physical body to provide oxygen to it. The more physical your child is, the more oxygen to the brain, the more the brain can learn.
Of course you are doing wonderful; just reading to a child can make a large difference.
Just my opinion.
Right now I am currently doing the math program. Lots of physical stuff such as walking, hanging bar, balance beam and trampoline.

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / How soon did you know?

I am wondering how soon you *knew* you were pregnant?
Did you know in your mind/body you were pregnant even before taking a home test, going to the Dr., or missing a cycle?
Did you ever totally believe you were pregnant, only to discover you were not?
Perhaps my genernal stomach ache, heartburn, and tiredness is just the flu. It is way too early for me to even take any pregnancy test, so I am just guessing and hoping.

Our current bed is Queen and needs to be replaced. We were/are a co-sleeping family, although my 2 year old almost sleeps in her own bed full time now. However, I am thinking hopefully soon we will have another child. Do I just get a new Queen sized matress or do I get a King? Thoughts?

Just started using Little PIM, spanish, a fews ago. DD (28 months) seems to enjoy it - asks to watch it, will watch it for about 7-10 min. at a time, and it does seem to be reinforcing the words that we see/hear elsewhere.
I like that it comes in many small segments so I can choose to just show 1 or 2 segments at a sitting. An entire DVD is 35 minutes long, which is much too long for my DD current attention span.
I purchased the multi-pack that has 3 DVDs, Music CD and flash cards. The flash cards are not Doman style, just a regular flashcard. I do like the flash card because it helps me remember the spanish words. She asks to listen to the CD ALL the time in the car - I assume eventually she will catch on to the words, but so far she just hums along.
All in all, I would say it is a great secondary tool, however, not a primary tool. I find the LR spanish files are simplier and easier to understand. I'm finding it easier to collect/understand the spanish vocab from LR. I then try to use the words during the day - even if it is mixed with english. Such as "Do you want le leche (milk) in a rosa (pink) or verde (green) vaso (glass)? It does seem to be working and I would estimate that my DD has learned about 100 spanish words in about 3 weeks using a combo of LR, Little Pim, and Mom and Dad using them during the day. However, I would say 90% of the words we learned from LR and only 10% from Little Pim.

10 years....I would be 45. Well, we farm, so hopefully my partner continues to be financially successful doing what he loves. Maybe the farm will be bigger than it is today but not too big. Obviously we will be in the same town, perhaps even the same house. Hopefully I have more children, how many more ???? Hopefully I will be homeschooling all my children. And maybe, given 10 years my home will be that organized magazine picture perfect house....although somehow I doubt even 10 years will be enough....perhaps 20 years

I second waterdreamer - I seem to spend most of my days parenting, teaching, and researching.
I am lucky to get out twice a week to a bootcamp. I am almost back to my prepregnancy weight. Just in time - we are trying for a second.
I would like to become/start a part of a group of families that get together for potluck and boardgames or cards. I enjoy simple evening with friends, but all my close friends live many hours away.

I tried attaching a picture to my hanging bar post, but it isn't showing up. The picture is 1,832 KB. I tried modifying the post, but now I can't access the Hanging bar post at all. Can others see the post? And the picture? It not, what can I do to fix the post? Thanks for your help.

We finally installed a hanging bar. We solved the 'spinning' problem of Doman's original design by putting a cube on one end of the dowel. I will try to post pictures of it soon.
Next project, monkey bars!

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Has anyone had a baby after age 41?

Kizudo, I'm younger than you, just 35, but somehow I feel tired all day everyday, and I only have 1. The thought is in my head that way back in my youth I figured I would be the Mother of 4 kids. For that to be reality I need to have triplets now, or yes I will be (hopefully) having babies at 41. Condolensces on the miscarriage, very sorry for any Mom struggling through that.
Have you considered acquiring help so that the energy you do have goes to your child/children? It is on my serious consideration list right now. If I can (hopefully) afford to outsource some of the house cleaing, yard work, and bookkeeping then more of my energy can be used to learn with my child.
Hopefully spring comes early to Manitoba. I find these last few dreary winter days in SK very depressing and energy sucking. The energy involved in getting into snowgear to go for a 5 minute walks is almost too much these days. Skip the skating, I want to swim!
I hope you find peace with the path life leads you.

Is anyone following the Women's International Summit for Health www.wishsummit.com?I am interested in some of the speakers and began to listen to one, but then the 'day' changed on me and I can no longer access that speaker. Does anyone know how to access past speakers? I am currently listening to Jules Dervaes discussing sustainable living. Interesting ideas.

It would seem that either no one else is watching them or they are all too busy watching the Olympics to reply.
On the positive side my daughter say all the skiers wearing helmets and decided she wanted to wear her helmet to skate! Since we have been skating without a helmet for months, I am happy for the influence.
Back to Men's downhill.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: just got our materials for our crawling track
|

Florida - that would make the temperature less of a concern I like the idea of a space heater, but I currently don't own one and I am worried about how to make it safe - any suggestions? I agree, my daughter hated the swing, and never really tolerated the crib. She much preferred sleeping on her side curled up to me. Perhaps a crawling track is the answer. I read in the Physically Suberb book that a parent can just staple leather over the carpet instead of making a full crawling track. Has anyone tried that? What happens to the carpet underneath? Not that baby doesn't come first, but I just put brand new carpet in the baby room - I would hate to wreck it. I really do appreciate everones' ideas - sometimes it is tough to figure out the most practical way to implement these great ideas.
