EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: The Suzuki Method for Teaching Music

When I was growing up, my older brother chose to play the violin, and I (idolising my sibling as one is often wont to do ) decided to play the violin as well. Our parents never pushed us into playing instruments, and were fairly apathetic towards the whole idea, instead pressuring us in our academic pursuits, so we only really had each other to drive and motivate ourselves to improve and practice (to sheet music). Exams came and went but it was never the main point; for us the emphasis was on playing the piece as well as possible, to serve the orchestra as a whole when we eventually performed. It also meant that sight-reading, "feeling" the music and reacting to the volume/intensity of everyone around you played a bigger part than rote learning and repetitive practice. As I grew up my tastes fell away from classical music and I picked up guitar, which traditionally has a much deeper scope for improvisation than violin (violin pieces are typically quite carefully composed and rehearsed before performing). By learning to improvise and adapting to other people's styles, I found a passion for music that resulted from simply enjoying playing the instrument... In developing that musicality, my own desire to learn more of the theoretical side of things grew quite naturally, simply because learning all the relationships between notes, scales and rhythms suddenly became much more relevant. I guess in other words, my thoughts are that instilling the love of music is more important in the long run, than pushing your little one to memorize/practice their scales! shuki

One day the cat and the rat fought with a big red hen, dressed in a orange hat for a green pie. Neither of them won because the pie flew in the air an got stuck in the tree.
They decided to find a ladder but while they were looking the pie came down in a huge splatter The cat, rat and red hen got covered in goo So they scraped and scratched, but just nothing would do!
Glaring at each other and making lots of sounds, They all started calling for the great big hound. Along he came, big and brave, with floppy ears and a great big chain. But, his big eyes were watering 'cause his back was in piain.
He had been sleeping when the call went out, and had taken a huge leap and put his back out! His needs were now of the Chiropractic sort, so the whole plan he had to abort! A chiropracor for dogs? Where could one be found? my chiropractor has adjusted dogs; he's right here in town!
My son Dr H can do the job, he'll be home soon to follow the plot He's fluent in hen, cat and rat, he's really quite the polyglot!

I feel great when I step out of myself and make a difference in the world, creating love and peace! Even if it's just a little thing, like standing up on a crowded train in peak hour to let an elderly person have a seat, taking the time to comfort a friend who's down, or just putting my change into the Ronald McDonald charity box. ... It sounds cheesy, I know

Hi lila_and_mom! Sorry I didn't catch this message sooner! Next time if you have Little Reader problems do post them in the Little Reader Bug Reports forum and it will definitely be answered promptly First of all I'm sorry to hear about your computer viruses, they are very difficult to remove most of the time In order to backup your Little Reader files, first make a copy of your entire My Documents\BrillKids folder and put it somewhere safe (an external hard drive, or a USB memory stick, for example). Also, what version of Little Reader did you have installed? Was it a beta version? If you can remember that will help greatly for us to form a solution for you Oh, and I also recommend AVG Antivirus, i use it on all my home PCs. Do a Google search for "Avast" and you'll find it! Cheers, and good luck, shuki

Once upon a time, Santa Clause wandered into my garden and dropped his cookies on blue carpet that my sacks of beads fell onto. I picked pickled parsnips from Papa's popular place, then danced deliriously for my baby panda and he got slept under the Christmas tree.
Whenever reindeer passes through the lovely supermarket OVERFLOWING with laughter throw tomatoes at grandpa giggling away.
We all stopped when suddenly George shouted, "HO HO HO! Oh, goodness!" Apparently the facetious elves played jolly upon finishing one cookie!
Hurray! Rudolph pranced joyfully while Santa drank eggnog and sang a song loudly while wrapping presents quickly. Everything suddenly vanished into clouds that disappeared rapidly into dust. It wasn't very unusual really,

1. My local launderette - They are just across the street from me, they wash my clothes, dry them, fold them, and deliver them back to me! All I have to do is bring a basket of clothes over once a week Saves so much time! 2. Wikipedia - an online encyclopaedia that caters for all the little questions that would otherwise niggle at me all day long... What exactly is foie gras? Where did the term "fair dinkum" originate from? And what nationality was Nikola Tesla, I thought he was Russian? 3. Memo whiteboard - if I didn't mark down all my tasks on my little whiteboard at home, I would never remember to do anything!
