EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Flash Card Words

Hi,
As per Dr. Doman, you can show it in categories, starting off with "self words" like baby's name, names of his family, and his body parts. You can then move on to "home vocabulary" i.e. objects found in your house, baby's possessions such as (toys, spoon, shoes etc), food, animals etc. Later you can move onto actions such as eating, sleeping etc. You can later move onto colors and other adjectives (like long, thin, short, big, dirty etc) which will help you form couplets which is the second step in the Doman's method.
Happy motherhood!

KL,
Just wondering if the new system also means a new version of LR?
Just one thing which could be improvised is the autoforward setting. I am unable to flash the slides as fast as 1 second. Even if I choose the fastest option in the autoforward setting, I feel it still takes 2 or 3 seconds to change. Could anything be done about that? Could we be given an option of specifying the number of seconds we want the slide to appear for?

Graffjamie,
It's great that you have attended the seminar and witnessed things for yourself. When we people who have read only his books have so much faith in the system, I know how much more convincing it is to see it in person. Please do let us know whatever you learn from them.
GloriaD,
Your reply was a testimonial by itself. I know how much thrilled you must have been to see kids doing instant math and performing amazing tasks. Now this is a good motivation for me to keep doing the program consistently. Would love to know more from you guys on what is taught at the seminar, is it the same thing as outlined in their books or anything more...or whatever you think will be good for us to know. Thanks a bunch.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How and when do you bring back words to review?

If you have reached 200 single words, then you can start showing couplets using the old words. Also try to use the words consciously while talking to the baby everyday, so that the baby correlates what it means.
This is how you do couplets according to Dr. Doman:
You will show 2 sets of 5 couplets each day. Show each set 3 times a day for 5 days or less. After 5 days, retire one couplet from each set and add 1 new couplet to each set. Keep adding 1 new couplet and retiring 1 old couplet daily.
You will do this couplet session everyday along with your single words.
After sometime, you can move on to phrases using the old words...Then you graduate to sentences...This is how old words are brought back into the program again.
Hope this helps.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Motivation .... and getting it all done?

Yeah, it is indeed difficult to do a job, take care of the baby and household, and teach him to read/do math. Sometimes, I feel I don't do justice to either. Even if i manage to get him in front of the computer, he is easily distracted and wants to pull down the monitor and play with the keyboard. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed and totally out of charge that I don't feel like doing the program for a couple of days. But once again, seeing so many people talking about consistency, I try to do my best and keep the programs on track. And motivation...I do get that from my husband, a lot of self motivation by reading Brillkids and similar sites, and of course, watching a lot of youtube videos of babies reading and doing similar amazing things...that keeps me going...

I show him Reading and Math in the same session. We do 3 sessions in a day. Here goes a typical session:
1. Math (currently showing dots 1-10). 2. Words (2 sets of 5 words each) 3. Couplet (1 set of 5 couplets). 4. Words (2 sets of 5 words each) 5. Couplet (1 set of 5 couplets). 6. Words (final set of 5 words).
So each session will show 25 single words and 10 couplets plus dots 1 to 10.
Will do each session after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So that makes 3 sessions in a day without forgetting.
I play YBCR around 11 AM while he has something to eat. I play it until he is done with eating which will be around 15 to 20 mins.

Sangamithra,
Yeah, it is likely that the baby may be interested in grabbing and tearing/chewing the card than actually seeing it. My son wanted to do the same. I have started showing math on powerpoint. He seems to be interested. I use different color dots each time to keep his interest up. I am also contemplating on buying LM after getting to know something about it. Let me see...

Nikita,
They have the answer to your 4th question in their books. They say there are no hard and fast rules and you can modify the method according to what you think will work for your child. They say that they have just given the guidelines for the program and we can feel free to modify it if it benefits the child.
