EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Is this a good time to introduce a foreign language?

I speak mandarin to my daughter. Hubby speaks english to her and my mother-in-law speaks cantonese to her. I would like to introduce spanish to her but I am wondering if this is the right time now. She is 23 month old now and here in Hong Kong, they actually introduce kids for entry into kindergarten next year. I am sort of worried that she might be answering in kindergarten interview, partly English + spanish if I introduce Spanish to her at this stage. I intended to bring her to Spanish playgroup. Is this the right time or should I wait till she gets a place in kindergarten? http://parentinglittler.blogspot.com

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Little Reader for working mum?
|

Hi, I am fascinated to see kids reading and enjoying books at a young age. However, I am not sure if I have enough time to squeeze in Little Reader in my schedule. I can't use the Glenn Doman method coz' I can't flash cards to her 3 times a day. I am thinking of starting the Little Reader for my 23 month old but I am not sure if the little time I have at home, after work will suffice. Can any working mums share your experience? Reach home around 7pm, we have dinner, our family evening walk. I practise my violin for half an hour. She listens to music, dancing, bath time fun , Lego and I read books to her. How much time do you need for LR daily to be effective? All advices appreciated. Thanks. http://parentinglittler.blogspot.com

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: TEACHING MUSIC to our kids – Questions for YOU
|

- How important do you think music education is, and why? from what I observed.Ppl who has early music education seems to have clear mind and are more well planned in life. - What are you currently doing with your child in terms of music education? Bought her a 1/32 size violin toy for her to "play " with. She doesnt really appreciate the violin much yet but I am hoping that she gets familiar with it and learn to respect this music instrument. Also , attending Kindermusik , which I feel is really wonderful and a good start in music appreciation. She is 22 months old and started singing quite some time ago. - What instrument(s) is your child learning (or do you plan to let your child learn)? Violin - What are the problems you face when teaching music (or an instrument)? No idea, not started yet but I anticipate some lack of patience,, and attention. http://parentinglittler.blogspot.com

hi,
to everyone who loves to write blog, please do not divulge too much information, such as you kid's name, where, when she attend classes, the name of your family etc.
for the safety of your family and child, i think is best not to divulge too much information to strangers.. remember, we are suppose to educate our kids on online safety ?
no offense to anyone..
have a nice day.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Good violin dvd

hi, you check out this website: http://www.teachyourchildviolin.com/teachyourchildviolin.htmlor search for books and dvd on how to play violin. what i did was, i enrolled in violin classes myself. learning violin myself now, i think it will be hard to learn from website, dvd or books, coz' you need someone to correct when your bow is held wrongly, wrong posture and stuffs. i am not learning to teach her, i just want to expose her to the violin practice at home. she is 18 months old now, and i'll be bringing her to see a violin teacher to assess whether she is ready for formal music lessons. also, i hope to be the home teacher, teacher assistant at home, to guide her when she does her practice. if you have not played violin before, it is not recommended to learn and teach her your own, coz' if you teach her the wrong habit,, it is very difficult to reverse. by the way, i bought "zin zin zin violin", dvd. she is a little more interested in violin after seeing other kids playing violins.
