226  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: What is 'THE SHOP'? Why can't I access it? on: September 25, 2008, 12:10:44 PM
Thanks for explaining. I was thinking there was something wrong with my account hehe! smile
227  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / What is 'THE SHOP'? Why can't I access it? on: September 24, 2008, 05:36:28 PM
There's an option in the 'Loyalty Points' tab where you can 'spend', 'donate', etc your loyalty points? Anybody knows how this works? When I click on anyone of them, I get a notification that I'm not allowed to access 'the shop'. How come? Help please. Thanks!
228  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Toxic Toys on: September 19, 2008, 04:42:03 PM
Also, be especially careful with toys that baby puts in her mouth like teethers.
229  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: My baby had me in tears today! ( joyful of course!) on: September 19, 2008, 02:28:52 AM
I got goosebumps listening to your story! It's truly a joy to see a child learn. I'm proud of your dedication. Congratulations!
230  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Toxic Toys on: September 19, 2008, 02:22:23 AM
Hi! I don't have personal experience yet regarding toxic toys (i'm still preggy w/ my first baby) but I do know that toys made in China are potentially hazardous as they may contain PVC, BPA and even lead. I know this because a lot of toys, candies, etc here in the Philippines that are made in China have been recalled by BFAD (bureau of food and drug admin) because of LEAD content. Make sure you look at the labels, opt for ones that says "pvc" free or better yet, research the company first in the internet if they are using safe plastics. I've read user reviews on amazon.com that some 'sassy baby' products are made in china and are dangerous. I personally can't attest to that but better safe than sorry!
231  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Organic foods on: September 19, 2008, 02:16:13 AM
I agree with kmum! Using organic products are just as important as eating organic foods. Most of us are absorbing lots of cancerous sulfates without knowing it. Check your shampoo and liquid soap labels. A good website to visit is www.cosmeticbase.com. They have lists of products that have of harmful ingredients along with detailed explanations and lab tests results. My personal favorites are KISS MY FACE for bar soaps, JASON EARTH'S BEST for baby toiletries and DR.BRONNER for liquid soaps.
232  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: whats the difference between the Shichida method and Glenn Domanns? on: September 17, 2008, 01:32:12 PM
Hi! I've come across some articles and materials regarding the Shichida Method. I've uploaded the files in the downloads section. It's a bit similar the the Doman's Method (using flashcards) but there's an element of 'ESP'.
233  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: How to take care of Pre-Mature baby on: September 11, 2008, 07:28:31 PM
Hi! I'm glad the baby's home now. I think the best thing you could do for the little angel is make sure she gets BREAST-MILK. In this way, the baby gets all the nutrition and "protection" she needs.

Also, try to replicate the uterine environment as much as possible since she's not supposed to be out of there yet. Avoid unnecessary noises, keep her warm always, don't expose her to pets, and make sure the room is sanitized. Hope this helps!
234  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: YBCR - Left brain stimulation on: September 11, 2008, 07:23:15 PM
Hello! Can you post the web link that you've researched on? I'd like to review them myself. Personally, I think if your child enjoys them and LEARNS from them, then I see no reason why you should stop it. =)

There are other ways (or other videos) to stimulate right-brain function. You could try coupling them with the YBCR videos. After-all, I've read that "whole-brain" approach is just as beneficial for infants.
235  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Share your Birth Stories! on: September 09, 2008, 07:04:38 PM
My DD has three children - she is 5ft 4in (162.56cm)

baby 1 was 4.280kg (9lb 7oz) - normal birth with tearing and stitches.  He is adult now and 6ft4in  (193.04) large build
baby 2 was 3.714kg (8lb 3oz) -  normal birth with tearing and stitches.  She is 18yrs now 5ft 5in    (165cm) slim build
baby 3 was 4.678kg (10lb 5oz)  ohmy  - normal assisted birth (her shoulder got stuck) with tearing & stitches She is 16yrs now - 5ft 5in (165cm) medium build.
My DD has some noticeable stretch marks now  Sad

DD recommends drinking rasberry leaf tea for the last week or so of preg to help prepare the muscles for labour - she used it before the last birth and reckons it made a big difference to labour. She drank this on advice of a midwife and herbalist. I should think it advisable to ask advice before doing the same  unsure

I was lucky with my three - I had normal births except for the last DS (who was induced 3 weeks early) Short labours for each and no tears or stitches for any of them. I was not sore afterwards for more than a few hours discomfort - and up and about the same day.  I also had almost pain free labour for the first two babies - that meant that until the final push I was not able to feel the contractions - more like low back ache - and for the youngest DS - once the induction got under way labour only lasted about 2 hours total.

Thanks for the suggestion carpe_diem! I will purchase raspberry tea leaf as early as now =) My sister-in-law is having a scheduled c-section and I sort-of envy her because she won't experience the pains of labor! LOL! But I believe a normal delivery is still best. =)
236  EARLY LEARNING / Prenatal Education / Re: prenatal stress and effects on baby on: September 09, 2008, 07:00:02 PM
Does anyone know when are fetuses MOST susceptible to pre-natal stress? I had a lot (though controllable) during my 1st to 5th month. Now I'm practicing a little yoga and self-affirmations and they are helping a lot!
237  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Are you in favour of the epidural? on: September 09, 2008, 06:51:26 PM
Hi! I'm due to give birth in 6 weeks and I would have the epidural as a last resort for pain management. Epidurals CAN raise your blood-pressure and slow down the baby's heart-beat (elevating the chances for c-section!). There are other ways to manage pain like proper breathing, visualization, and acupressure.
238  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Home stay mom on: September 02, 2008, 04:59:52 PM
There are some ways to earn while at home like selling your crafts and hand-made produce. My sister-in-law attended a balloon-making seminar and once in a while, she would have bookings for children's parties. Some people in my country are into soap-making, processed-meat making, and the list goes on. Most of the seminars are sponsored by the government so the only thing you have to pay is the materials you use in the classes.
239  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Share your Birth Stories! on: September 02, 2008, 11:29:56 AM
O my, glad you cleared that one up so I won't be shocked when I see mine THAT swollen! hahaha! =)
240  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Web links for early learning resources on: September 02, 2008, 09:31:28 AM
