EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Urgent question - YBCR

Yes, that's right - but I thought that someone would have used the recommended words in his reading program, using the software - ie, he recommends that we start with body parts etc, so I thought someone would have created those files as so many people follow the Doman method using the software surely?

I went to those downloads, and they do not seem to follow the Doman flashcard recommendations. ie - there is no file with body parts which Doman recommended - ie hand, hair, leg, shoulder, knee, toes, eye, bellybutton, foot, ear, mouth, finger, head, arm, elbow, teeth, nose, thumb, lips, tongue. Surely someone must have followed the YBCR using the Little Reader?

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Urgent question - YBCR

Hi all
I am starting to teach my 11 week old Step 1 tomorrow, and I must say I am a little disorganised! I have been teaching her the flashcards(step 0) until today. I bought the Brillkids little reader, and in the YBCR book, they say you should start with the parts of the body. Does anyone have any of these files or can direct me to the parts of the bodym and then all the other sets thereafter, such as possessions, foods, animals, actions, colors and so on that are not in the standard version?
thank you!

The exercises in "How smart is your baby" and "You can teach your baby to read" etc seem completely unrealistic in terms of the number of times per day that you should teach your baby. E.g the phyical exercises for a newborn should be done ten times per day. I would like to know how this is possible?

Hi!I was in exactly the same position as you! Then I bought "how smart is your baby" and "how to teach your baby to read". These are two awesome boojs on how to stimulate your newborn. They describe exqactly the activities as well as reading material which you need to show to your baby. They say that each day not stimulating is like "pruning your babies' brain, and they effectively lose those wonderful abilities when not used.
Essentially, there are many acitivities to increase visual, auditory, balance and language competence using various methods of stimulation. I really recommend you run out and buy these books soonest. I was really lost until I read these. My baby is now 8 weeks and I have really benefitted from them.
Feel free to ask me any questions if you have
Best of luck!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Anyone teaching Italian?

Hi, I am also SUPER keen to hear about how to teach my baby Italian and English together! I have seen that people interchange the flashcards - some words in English and others in Italian. This teaches the child both languages - so for example you may have flash cards saying Mommy, Daddy, Bocca (mouth), eyes, Naso (nose)
Any other tips would be much appreciated.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Stimulating your newborn

Hi Everyone I was recently faced with the issue of which Doman books to buy. Unfortunately, in South Africa where we live, these books are not available in our local bookshop, and the import duties, shipping and conversion make each book super expensive! I decided to start with "How smart is your baby", "How to multiply your baby's intelligence", "How to teach your baby to read", nd "how to teach your baby to swim". I would HIGHLY recommend all these books. A a new or pregnant mom, it is worrying to know exactly what to do to stimulate your baby and each precious moment gone by, is a moment which we can't get back. Moreover, in "how smart is your baby", they talk of your baby's brain "pruning" which means that if parts are not used, they simply "die off" and that's that! "How smart is your baby" provides excellent ways to stimulate your baby. I have been actively following the program. and I have to say that I can definitely see a difference in the development of my baby copared with other friends' babies who have not been following this program (albeit that each baby does develop at different times). She is now 8 weeks old, super alert, and loves to look at the flash cards which I made her from the book "How to teach your baby to read". The "how to multiply your baby's intelligence" is really a summary of all the books. However, it does not go into detail of "step 0" which is needed for a newborn. The individual books (such as How to teach your baby to read) does that. So in summary, if you're wondering which books to buy, I would recommend as a starter, buy the abovementioned books. The Encyclopedic knowledge and maths gets taught once the reading program gets started, and so the abovementioned books are the sessential ones to get your started. We have also been trying the tips and techniques in the swimming book, although I must say it's winter now and even getting into the bach with her is sometimes a mission and cold! Best of luck all pregnant and new mommies!
