Muzzy is for children. I'm probably not the right person to talk to about it though since I have used it more with my son who is now 5. We started using it when he was 4. I haven't been terribly consistant with it but he does like to watch it even though he doesn't understand what is being said. When he does watch it he begins to make up french sounding words. If you google Muzzy their website would be able to explain it to you best. That would also apply to Rosetta stone.

Hi! I was wondering if there were any other parents of children with Down syndrome who use Little Reader, and if so what has your experience been teaching your child reading?

My son Josiah is 2 1/2. We have been doing reading, math and picture cards for over a year now. The first glimmer of understanding that I received was at 18 months when one day I showed Josiah the word good-bye without saying anything and he began to wave. Moments like that have been few and far between though. I believe that he knows a lot but he doesn't always want to play the game when I ask him to identify between objects.

I have had a recent encouragement when he showed me that he knows the flags of South America. I have been flashing them to him as well as to my 5 year old.

For the most part I need to just input the information and trust that he is receiving it. I look forward to the day when he will readily demonstrate his knowledge, but for now I will just carry on.

I am still not able to download. I tried doing what you recommended but it isn't working. I'm fine up until #3. I choose little reader then a box opens up saying 'error' and 'invalid file type'.

I'm really eager to get going but I'm stuck.

I am using Rosetta stone with my son as well as Muzzy. Rosetta stone is very well done allowing you to see a picture, hear the word from a native speaker and see it written all at the same time. I think it is an excellent program. My son also really enjoys watching Muzzy. Pimsleur sounds good too, I will have to check into it.

There are a lot of reasons to Homeschool. I am Homeschooling our oldest boy George who is in Kindergarten and we both love it. Learning should be fun but unfortunately school often takes the love of learning away from kids.

I try to encorporate play, games and fun into every school day. When I am excited about what we are learning it is hard for him not to be.

It's not all fun and games though. There are times that he doesn't want to do whatever activity I have chosen. But that's okay because an important life lesson is learning to do things because we need to not because we necessarily want to.

Kids are very impressionable, they do not have the discernment that comes with age. I want to be the one that chooses what is being impressed on him.

There is a lot of joy and satisfaction that comes from teaching your child, not to mention knowledge - yes even in kindergarten!

Three years ago we got rid of our TV. So not only do the kids not watch TV but neither do we. It has been one of the best decisions we have made. Our oldest son was 2 1/2 at the time. Even though we controlled his watching, (or maybe because we did) he would fuss whenever we said no. Now that it is gone TV is no longer an option. George is 5 now and full of imagination and knows how to entertain himself. Once in a while for a treat we will watch a DVD on the computer. Our youngest son Josiah is 2 1/2 and has never watched TV. He really has no interest in it either when the TV is on at someone elses house. George on the other hand still loves TV and will be glued to it when we are at someones house with a TV on. I would guess that if he wasn't exposed at an early age this would not be the case.

As for me, I don't miss it at all. I wonder how I ever found time to watch it.

I am trying to download Little Reader downloads and things that other people have sent in. I do have the Home Basic.

I am not having success downloading other peoples picture sets. I have been doing what I believe I am supposed to which is first selecting what I want. I then click download. It asks me to open or save. I try both and neither seems to work. When the file comes up it is just a bunch of random letters and symbols and it says notepad.

When first signing up I successfully downloaded a set. I don't know what I did then that was different but I can't figure it out now. If someone could help I would appreciate it.

Hi My name is Denise and I have recently found Brill Kids. I am very excited to have found it as I have been making word,math and picture cards for my son for over a year now. This will save me a lot of time. My son Josiah has Down syndrome and can really benefit from all this brain stimulation. Thanks so much for making this available to us.

I'm new to Little Reader - first I'm not sure what the difference is between Playlists and Categories. My problem is trying to import files. For example I have a folder with flags of South America I would like to import all these files. When I go through the process it asks for files with the extension .pl . Can you please help? Thanks!
