I think you may have to go to "Account management" and under the "software /licence" tab , in the 3rd step, you will find the courses which you can download.
I am not sure if this will work in case you have some other technical issues. hope that helps

@ nhockaday: It took me 3 trips to 2 different targets to get 6 flashcards sets which also include ABC and Shapes and colors. I still am looking for Presidents a,Space and states. I spoke with the lady there and she asid that usually this target stocks up the dollar stuff on Wednesdays, So i will be going there again. BUt everything looked picked at and infact I wanted 2 sets of each but found only one set. Try again and if possible ask them when they restock so you can buy the cards.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How do you teach a very active baby?

It seems like you are doing a fantastic job . But sometimes a child may want to advance on the physical front (like standing, cruising, walking) first . During this phase , the child will work on accomplishing these goals and sideline the others. I think you are doing great with all the modifications. As discouraging as it may seem, please try not to stop your efforts for reading. Have you done any problem solving with your child? She may be knowing many words.
Please don't worry about the number of words your child can read or the number of books you read to her. Believe me , if she can read one, thats your boost to keep on showing more. your child will have to face competetion when she grows up. She doesnt need it now!!
This is a game I wanted to try with my dtr but havent done it yet. I have tried to adapt it to your situation .See if it helps you.: Stick card stock with a word on it, on all sides of a diaper box. have 2 boxes ready and tumble both in a fairly open space. Encourage her to crawl or walk upto it or push her walker upto it. And when she touches it , you can enthusiastically shout out the word ,and immediately tumble the other box in a different direction. Just correct the word quickly if it lands upside down.
try to use physical activity while flashing cards, like jumping , tickling, rocking and keep short sessions, just show 5 words a day . Dont be tempted to show more than that. She will show you the cues when she is really ready for new ones. if you have done many single words, jump onto couplets, phrases quickly.
I hope that helps some. And please dont worry, you are doing great, and so is your child.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: what is the best method to teach decipiline

I am glad this topic is discussed . Till a couple of months ago, my child was like an angel. granted, we had crying issues and feeding and sleeping issues but thise seem tolerable compared to behavioural isses we are facing now. I use time-outs and like some one said earlier there were days when I was giving her 5 time outs in less than an hour. I had learned about counting from one of my neighbors. She counts upto 5, so thats what I started to do and it works half the time but we have to be very consistent. I had no idea about the Magic 1-2-3 book. I am going to read it. Thanks for sharing all the insights.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Let's brag about our babies!!
|
on: July 10, 2009, 03:29:10 PM

wow,who can resist bragging about their child... ok here i go... At 22 months she can read a few words in English. She can ,for sure, read 2 words in Marathi. She can identify shapes including curvilinear triangle and quatrefoil. She can draw circles, purposefully. She recently was able to successfully complete a clothespin task we had been working on for a long time. She can sign for many words. She loves to help me with vacuuming and cooking. She can count , the highest number I heard from her was thirty seven. But she skips so many numbers!!!! From her books, she can identify animals like wapiti ,bison, yak. She is bilingual for parts of the body and certain foods. We are working on colors in Marathi. She can speak full sentences in Marathi even though she prefers single words for immeditate needs. But the best one of them.......drumroll please.......are her BIG HUGS. She loves to give big hugs as she calls them to her family ( stuffed and real both )
And while I take a breather from all this brag-o-rama about my child, I want to brag about all our super brillkids forum babies...and their wonderful parents. Great work everyone. @helenadrian, your child is doing great, not just OK. As long as he/she loves what he is doing/learning, its great.

I have some cat files for marathi and MAS2IN has many presentations as well. I think your post gave me an impetus to restart on marathi. so Karma to you. P.s i am from TX too.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: What do you look for in children's books?
|
on: June 22, 2009, 02:24:04 PM

I like to look for variety in childrens books-lift the flap, board, paper.. though I would love to have the words on left and picture on right side. I am not comfortable with books which have very absurd characters like talking telephone or which are very fantasy oriented. I learnt my lesson about reading through each book carefully and thinking about it from my childs point of virew from this book called Yummy, yucky. While is a cute book, it had things like a child sticking a finger in his nose and the page said --yucky and lo and behold thats what my child proceeded to do. Even if a book has a character too good to be true , I would rather take that one. I too like ,Shadah, like Maisy and spot books. Also the Biscuit books from I can read series. Also i like the BOBo series from Jez Alborogh as it gives me a chance to talk about things like feelings, descriptive words etc while lookoing at animals.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Does overstimulation lead to hyperactivity?
|
on: June 22, 2009, 02:09:08 PM
|
I am not really sure about the correct scientific reasoning behind this but I agree with previous posters that TV is the most common source of over-stimulation.
IMO Excess stimulation inhibits the childs self soothing mechanisms. The over stimulated child is then not able to calm down and in turn leads to over-activity. I completely agree that Programs like LR/LM or YBCR within their stipulated guidelines are not over-stimulating.
I do not know if there is a direct link between over-stimulation and Hyperactivity (as in ADHD)

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: BrillKids Criteria for approving Little Reader files as Premium Content
|
on: June 17, 2009, 08:09:57 PM
|
while I think that this is a great idea of awarding only premium files with loyalty points , I think that some points should be allocated to people uploading their files.
To Justify my case , take an example of a file in a regional langauge , Once uploaded it will be downloaded by people wishing to teach their child that langauge but if it is not a very popular langauge, I am sure it will not reach the goal of 100 downloads and hence no points for the effort of this file . that will deter future uploader from making new nice files in that langauge.
Please consider that

Good topic!! K to you.
age of child: 21 months
favorite books :Panda Bear/ Brown bear/ Biscuit series/ Spot /Any book with animals
favorite indoor activities: Dumping her tea set , running around , "reading", feeding and diapering her stuffed toys,
favorite outdoor activities: feeding birds, stopping to smell the flowers..literally every flower, chasing innnocent little puppies
favorite field trips:park!
if you make your own activities what is your favorite recipe/tip: I made a little coin box out of an oatmeal container and made 2 slits just enough for a coin to slide and she loves putting her coins in it. great for co-ordination.
what has been on your to-do list for so long you think it might never get done (and i mean child oriented! ): sticking and pasting stuff/ purposeful pre-writing like join dots. So that she can work on Kumon books when she is 2 Many sensorial activities for music and smell where have you gotten some of your best ideas?Teach me do to it myself by Maja Pitamic and Toddlers busy book

Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: ybcr - doing something other than the suggested viewing schedule?
|
on: June 17, 2009, 07:48:38 PM

I do not have YBCR and hence cannot give any input on how to modify the viewing schedule but I think you have it correct when you say that he is bored as he already knows it. Believe me, my child knew some words from YBCR just by watching a video for a week (from the library) . Why not start with the next video or LR , if you have that and take a break from Vol 1 and then reintroduce it a fter a few weeks . I am sure he would like that change.
