Products Marketplace / Second-Hand Sell + Swap / Tweedlewink for sale
|
on: June 14, 2009, 12:09:47 PM
|
I'm selling my Tweedlewink DVDs. I have the first 6 plus Multiple Languages. We liked them but I want to sell them so I can afford to buy more learning materials. They are in excellent condition and come with the original boxes.
I will sell the set for $165. I'll sell individual DVDs for $25 each.
I will ship anywhere for actual shipping costs. I'm in the US at zip code 33624. If you are not in the US it would be helpful if you would let me know the best way to ship to you.
I hope they will find a good home soon! Please PM me if you are interested.

I am selling my Tweedlewink. I have all 6 DVDs plus multiple languages. They retail for $34.95 each, plus shipping. I'll sell the set for $165 + shipping, or $25 for an individual DVD. I am in USA and will ship at actual shipping cost anywhere in the world. My zip is 33624 if anyone wants to get an estimate on shipping and let me know the cheapest way. Please PM me if you are interested.
They are in excellent condition. We watched each one a few times and I want to sell them so I can buy more when they come out. My son really learned a lot from them.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / long term memories
|

I have a question and I'm not sure why I can't figure this one out myself.
I realize that what we are teaching our kids will help them later. I'm not doubting that.
I'm wondering about other memories. Personally, I have a few memories from when I was three, but I'm not sure that those weren't stories I was told or pictures I saw. Other than that, I don't remember much from being a young child. Will our kids remember more of their childhood since their memories will be so strong?
It would make sense that they would since they will remember the factual things. Anyone seen research on this?
Also, when can you tell that something is in long-term memory and not just short term? How long do things typically spend in short term memory?
I guess I need a book about how memory works.

Celeste - for some reason this one, and the one you did on metals, won't display the pictures. It comes up with an "x" and says my computer can't display the picture. I'm wondering if it is just me, or how you put the pictures in there.
I just tried another one of yours and it happens with all of them. Too bad because I was looking forward to them.

I agree that he can be eating regular foods. Sweet potato, avocado, bananas, applesauce are some good ones. Also, cheerios or little cereal that he can grab. You can introduce dairy, so full fat yogurt, cottage cheese, small pieces of cheese are good.
My son loves dehydrated fruits and veggies - the just tomatoes brand - the peas and corn are easy for him to eat himself.

Products Marketplace / Second-Hand Sell + Swap / I would like to borrow Physically Superb
|
on: April 04, 2009, 11:44:40 PM

I have read all the other Doman books but my library doesn't have Physcially Superb. It isn't cheap on Amazon or Ebay but I really want it. I know I will read it quickly because I don't need to read the philosophy part, so would anyone in the US be willing to lend me a copy? I could Paypal the shipping charges so there wouldn't be a cost and I would return it within a week. Once I have enough points for Little Reader I will be happy to give some points for the loan also. I realize it is taking a chance because I could just keep the book, but I wouldn't do that, and then you could take away all my karma.
I get most of my books from the library and the rest are packed, but I would be happy to share any of mine in the future.

Thanks for posting this. I just read a book about this that has similar information. It really stressed not giving rewards including saying "good job" because that makes it less about the process.
Also, I read somewhere that using things in a way other than their intended use is a great thing to do.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: A Mother's Reasons For Choosing Montessori
|

Unfortunately, I learned that anyone can buy the "Montessori" name. Some Montessoris are certified and others aren't.
I went to one when I was looking for preschool for my son and they brought fast food in for the two year olds for lunch. Every parent has a right to feed their kids what they want, but does anyone really think fast food for 2 years at school is a good idea?
On the playground they had a cooler of lemonade for the kids if they got thirsty. I love the cooler idea, but lemonade? Why not water. Who knows how much lemonade kids would drink if they had free access to it.
The teacher for the two year old program was bilingual. I really liked this because I want my son to learn Spanish. The problem was that her English was not good at all. I could barely understand her. I don't want my son learning English from someone who doesn't speak it well.
I asked about moving him up if he was advanced and they said if there was space he would eventually be moved up, but not that quickly.
I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
I know there are some great Montessoris out there but please make sure yours is a certified Montessori because it really makes a difference.

I googled "kindergarten powerpoint" and found a bunch of great presentations. I like them because it tells me the level of detail and types of things they cover in certain grades. I found some for higher grades and I'm using them as well. Many of them are included in the ideas mentioned.
The presentations are almost unusable except for the facts. Most have loud graphics, cartoon pictures, and tons of facts on one page that come up in an animated way. I'm basically using them for the idea and facts and then re-doing each slide. It doesn't take much less time than starting from scratch but I'm doing things that I wouldn't have originally thought of.
