Depends what do you mean? To teach only few words in another language? I will say yes, but if you want to teach the whole language I will say not! It is tested that children need to hear everyday and speak it to be able to learn it! My daughter is learning chinese as a third language, we use brillkids, dvds, you tube but the the truth is she only can speak from 1-10 in chinese, and she may have around 50 words vocabulary. It may take her lots of years to be able to speak chinese, she doesn't hear it all the time, and we also don't play her dvds every day...she has a chinese tutor once a week but I think it is not enough! I will like to ask her tutor to move to our house..I think that will she will really learn the language.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Developing Pre-Writing Skills

So I recently met a woman who is a Montessori teacher. I was asking her how to start teaching my 3 yr old, left handed son to write. I've heard it's better to start later so that they don't learn bad habits. And since he's lefthanded, It's been awkward for me to try and figure it out. She gave me a great piece of advice on teaching him how to hold a pencil correctly. She suggested you take a pushpin (obviously with very close parental supervision) and you have a piece of paper or cardstock with a design or something on it, lay it on the carpet, and they take the pin and poke dots along the lines of the design (or on a blank paper), and they naturally grasp the pin with their 3 fingers, and this is the same grip they should have on a pencil. I thought this was a cool trick and am going to try it out soon. She also suggested that when he's writting(left handed), that I start now and turn the paper so that the bottom right corner lines up with his bellybutton, so that it's angled the right way and he learns to write correctly without bending his wrist around like some lefties learn to do. Just wanted to share.
Just to add some other ideas, you also can use a tooth pick, both work great!

Hey Kimba I was trying to leave a comment over your blog but I couldn't..they wouldn't take my account and it gave a hard time...Lately Blogspot is acting weird How funny I just had this discussion with my husband days ago after seen a 2 year old playing with and ipad. Well everybody manage their own time in their family..different habits,education,values..etc And I respect that. We don't have tv in the bedrooms,we don't have twitter,facebook,..etc accounts! We don't use any kind of ipad,wii..or any other of those things. In our house we have one tv and one computer! The only thing my daughter has in her bedroom besides her fish and her bed are lots lots of books and we will keep it that way as long as we can...I know when they grow up they ask for stuff like that..I know someday she may get a phone or an ipad but for now she is 3 years old and there is still long miles to go before that happens. patty

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Pacifier used from birth or after a few months?

I don't know if pacifiers have any realtion with breastfeeding....I actually will like to search that before give my opinion about it. My daughter always refused to use pacifier since she was born...so I never bought one, they gave me one at the hospital but we never use it. I breasfeed my daughter until she was 14 months old and then she naturally quit me As my personal opinion I don't like pacifiers for my own kids...I am not a big fan of them! I feel like you promote the dependency feeling on something is not good for their theeth. And if you get them use to it...when they get older is very hard to stop them....and you will have aguge bill at the dentist office! Not worth it for me!
