EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: from flashcards to reading

I've been doing YBCR for months now with my 2 years old son. He can recognize every word and I've already gone through some new words but I feel stock as far as the next step. I always find a new book for him with short sentences in it and read it with him (for him) but I don't know if its enough. I've just started to create 2 word flash cards but I'm not good as far as the list of the words. Can anybody help me please???????? I don't want him to loose what he already knows, or to lose his interest. I started to read Doman's book about reading hoping to find the answers, but I'd like to know about your experience also. How did it work for you guys and how did you teach your kid to read.
Stodd, did you check this website? http://www.childandme.com/howteachbabyreadenglish/They have lots of good Power Point with single words, couplets and phrases. Lots of Doman based material. It will save you a lot of time. After we were done with YBCR I start shoing her Power Pint from this website 3 times a day. When we were done with it, I bought YCCR. I take lots of books from the library. It takes time to find a good book and the letter size is not that big there but all in all we are getting there and my DD can read sentences now. I have about 15-20 books from the library in the house, she reads them all and I change them when the child is losing her interest in the book (1-2 weeks).

Just bought the 5 DVDs and 50 sliding word cards for $50 used on Craigslist.
The Deluxe Kit for $200 on the main site includes a lot of goodies, but didn't want to spend that much.
Does anyone have the "lift-a-flap books"?
Are they awesome? Are they sold separately anywhere? mom2ross
Mom2ross, you are talking about YBCR not about YCCR (the name of this topic), right? We have a deluxe YBCR and we love lift-a-flap books. When we were done with DVDs she was still demanding those books for quite some time. We loved sliding cards and flash cards. Now we are doing YCCR and as far as I know only DVDs here. She loves them as much as she loved YBCR. It's a good investment.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Working on a Toddler for being Physically Superb
|

I'm not a very big helper here because I haven't read How to teach your Baby to be Physically Superb but I have just finished How Smart is Your Baby (I got it from the library), it gave me some ideas. I used to go into gymnastics so I have an idea what I can actually do with my toddler (24 months old). I put blankets and pillows on the floor by the sofa and my DD is happy to jump from the sofa on those pillows. She likes swinging, when I hold her arms and swing her from side to side or turn around (she calls it marry-go-round), or I take her hand and her foot (it goes better when my husband takes her left foot and hand and I take her right foot and hand) and swing her counting to 5 in different languages and then put her on her back on the pillows. I take her feet and put her upside down (she is putting her hands on the pillows, to make her arms stronger and it's good for her balance). I roll her forward through her head (don't know how you call it in English), need to be careful with her neck here. I put her tummy down on the sofa and her top part of the body goes on the pillows (on the floor), she is supporting herself with her arms and kinda pulling her body down sliding. This will make her arms stronger and her tummy muscles should "work" trying to support her body.
About water. I noticed that when she doesn't go to the pool too often, she is getting scared of the water. She used to slide in the pool from a little slide with no problem, my husband was catching her under the water and pushing her to the surface, but we took a break for 2 -3 weeks and she refused to go on the slide and even in the bathtub she was screaming when I was putting water on her face. The problem went away after we started our regular swimming. Now it's cold outside, no swimming for us. I take her in the shower with me once in a while and she has to deal with the water on her face and in the bathtub I keep putting water on her face, I used to count to 3 whenever I pour a cup of water on her head. Sometimes a nice toy will take all her attention and she doesn't care much of whatever mommy is trying to do. Sorry for such a long reply. I hope you'll find some of my info helpful.

DD loves her doodle pad (strange that nobody mentioned it), blocks, balls, books, musical instruments. She likes to play a marching band: just takes a guitar or a tambourine and goes around the house playing music, sometimes she puts on a bucket on her head to make the picture complete Sometimes she asks Mommy and Daddy to join her marching band I want to get her a xylophone, I'm sure she will love it!!

Wow! That's a GREAT price! Buy them!!!!! If you don't use them now, you will very soon. They are very good. In fact, we were just watching a new one yesterday and my son has been quoting parts of it and using the new words in playtime.
Thx for your reply, kizudo. Karma to you. You made it all very clear for me. Going to Amazon now.

Any update on YCCR? I see only positive reviews here. My little one will be 2 in a couple of weeks. We completed YBCR at 19 months. I don't know if she is old enough to start YCCR. I want to give it a try. Volume one is $8.99 on Amazon, all the rest are cheaper, may be because the demand is not that high on them.

Thanks Marmee and Tammtamm21 for your valuable inputs and karmas to you.
Tammtamm21, I like the idea of using foldable seat reducer, but wont they be afraid of the potty's height? My friend was potty training her daughter and she allowed her in adult potty for poop, but then she got scared and she doesn't poop in her own potty now. She now ask to put on diaper for poop.
I'm not Tammtamm21, but just want to share. I put my DD on the big toilet seat when she was 20 months and she loved it (we tried it when she was younger but she got scared) because I was tired to carry her potty around when we went for a visit. She is 22 months now and she doesn't want to go on her little potty, she tells me "big potty" and goes straight to the big toilet . I have to hold her though because she cannot reach and I haven't bought any training seat either. We started potty training at 13 months old.
