Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Vitamins

hi just a suggestion --becareful of overloading too much vitamins----- i noticed some kids tend to become addicted to that- if they dont consume the vitamin they tend to fall sick-- vitamins are good.....my daughter is vegetarian -- i noticed she falls sinc when she takes vitamins..without she is healthier so i had to dispose vitamins our of her diet-- i give her variety of juivec...
THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED BY AN AYURVEDIC DR FROM INDIA- to increase our immunity
INGREDIENTS: ]Dates 3 Almonds 4 Whole cardamom 2 Fennel seeds 2 tbsp fresh Ghee ½ tsp (clarified butter) It your child refuses to drink you can add other fruits like apples, pears, betroot or celery to add more taste to the drink.
The above is recommeded for all of us...we drink this daily and i can say that i hardly fall sick.
Soak all overnight, except the ghee Drain & peel cardamom & almonds in morning, Add half a glass of water (or milk) and ghee Blend all to prepare a drink. Drink following your morning tea or coffee
This breakfast will keep your energy high all day. Dates and almonds provide strength and nutrients. Fennel and cardamom aid in the digestive process. Later, you should have a normal breakfast only if you are really hungry.
Drink juices to vitalize your immune system! Fresh juices miraculously revitalize your immune system. They absorb quickly and are full of prana and vital nutrients. When you eat raw food, it’s hard to digest and produces too much Vata (air element). Too much Vata damages the immune system. Fresh juices do not produce excess Vata, but give the body the nutritional advantage of raw food.
AND being vegetarian we take lots of yellow lentils (yellow dall), split green lentils(moong dhall), green lentils, red beans, tofu, fresh paneer, drumstick leaves, drumstick fruit, pumkin, mint, -- all this is essential proteins for vegans. please be free to email me if u need any indian recipes or ayurvedic recipes..i am happy to share..

tq for the great post!
yes i agree with wendy, kids should be praised for their efforts and not because they are brilliant!
ii agree withTmS and shen li- I was mocked for reading and attending seminar on how to teach your kids. No one is perfect -there is no ending to the journey of learning...we grow as we learn new things and as parents we want the best future for our kids....
i love the posting on this board.....i feel contented that are so many parents who are in line with my thoughts!
god bless u parents!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: my daughter won't read!

hi sophisty,
Dont worry,,,your child will soon start reading.
I have been showing her flash cards, Bumblebee cd, YBCR, Gogo cd, Powerpoint since she was 10months old baby. i try to read to her almost everyday-- but i noticed that she learned based when she was outdoor -i agree with trinity papa - my dd seems to be more of tactile character..I take out every evening and while i am walking i would point to the water--and if possible let her see them and touch the water,, same goes to flower, leaf, slides, swing , boy , girl-- after doing this around 2 weeks i noticed she begin to point and tell me the words... you can take her around the house and name all the objects in the house. u can even prepare flash card and stick on the door , the word ' wall' on the wall -- my daughter loves this and realise within weeks she knew of to say the words without putiing the words on the object
when i did flasd cards with her-- she listens and absorbs everythg but she would not utter her word- i did not give up-- i kept showing more flash cards, powerpoints- but i noticed when i tested her.for example if i ask her which is the correct one- she would point at the correct answer..... I used alot of different methods to stimulate all her senses. i am following doman method as well.
Try making your own cards---- kids know when their mom have taken alot of trouble doing it for them-- they will surprise u-- one thing i noticed in my daughter when i prepared the cards myself-- she would within days start saying the words but not on those bought ones-- i find this strange.....
anyways i am happy that she enjoys and reads what i have made for her...it really makes me feel good when she recognises the flash cards that i hv made for her..i also allow her to watch bumble bee cd's on opposites, gogo cd's on conversation, animals, objects, colours, baby einstein cd,
most importantly u need to calm yourself and tell urself your child will read....trust me it works- visualise that she is reading... and always thank god...u need to be patient.. my kid has ds and speech issues despite all this i never gave up, i kept teaching her eventhough she would nto reply and finally i was contented when she started saying the words....... its reallly worth all the effort. dont stress urself-- when we are calm- our kid would calm themselves.
cheer up and i believe your child will start reading soon
take care
good bless u

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Helping child to talk
|
on: August 10, 2010, 07:37:55 AM
|

Hi Zaa, My daughter started talking late- around 12 months plus----mostly one word conversation and she loves to blabble and baby language. we are still working on her pronunciation.... I showed her lots of YBCR, EINSTEIN CDS, FLASH CARDS..... she absorbs everything that you teach her.... she would point at the object and she would speak using baby words- i would correct her immediately and ask her WHAT DO YOU WANT? DO U WANT TO WATCH CD? - i also prepared flash cards-- i repeated the words whenever she pointed-- so that i want her to know that there is a word for the obejct that she is pointing at.....
Children also mimic whatever we do-- so i would tell i when i am doing something--- let say i am bathing her -- I would she her " Baby is bathing ( Repeat this daily) .This is water...........Then let her play with the water-- keep repeating water, water.....and i think after 15-20 times saying that she said the word "WATER".. Then i would say ''mama is going to wipe you with this towel--- again repeat towel ,towel, towel......i did this continously for about 2 weeks-- and i realise she started saying the words but her pronunciation was not that clear.....if u ask for a towel she would immediately go and get the towel- she understands most of the things that i have taught her only thing she still cant construct sentences.....
u can also prepare a simple home made book--- where in one page u paste the action that she is doing and the next page describe" example Isabelle is eating. then next page on picture of her drinking- Isabelle is drinking....and etc....u would realise baby's love this....
or u can also do this in your computer cut and paste pictures of ur baby ....example for what i did in a simple word document..My name is Isabelle.....i posted her foto on the next page...I am two years old. Then mama's foto. next page : this is my mama. then dad's foto.. this is my papa.... then include granny, grandpa,, etc.....make sure dont put the picture and words together..separate them.
I ALSO read large printed books to her....she was able to say the words in the book after about 2months of repeating-- i dont have much time since i am full time mom-- so i am only able to read at night wth her. if u have more time...read more often,,that helps too!
My daughter like to watch this gogo cd- educational cd...which takes about daily conversation: what is your name? how old are u.....so i prepares flash cards for the characters in the cd : gogo, peter, jenny, water, cat etc.. i also prepared another set " what is your name . my name is.........., how old are you...i am two years old.....where do you live ......... i live at......how are you? i am fine, thank you. if u notice alot of people naturalllya ask these questions to toddler-- so if u can make them master this...imagine someone ask them they same question -- they would be able to answer- this in return would increase their confidence.
Then i would take her around the house and say the name-- i even pasted the words on the object --- so for example if it is door : i pasted the word door on the door itself, wall , table, chair, .her name on the board-- ... This really helped. She is 2 years and 8 months-- she is able to say couplets....open door, close the door, where papa, read book.....
i have attached the list of words and image i use for my daughter ...u can show this to your chil- keep repeating for a week your child would soon learn to say the words...
dont worry and your child would speak soon.
thank you twinenrgy for your article- karma to you...

Thank you daddude, sonya and kmum for your well wishers.
Another reason that my baby is very active is could be the ayurvedic supplement that she is consuming daily - it actually keeps her very active! and more over i m only back home at 8pm at night- i start teaching her aorund 9pm till about 10.30PM.. Then i allow her to watch her educational dvd while she 's on the bed-- so when she is tired she would just sleep off... The only problem is that she gets very excited seeing the dvd over and over- she has even memorised the entire sequence- she would tell what is the next item that is shown.......and this can drag up to 12.30 sometimes till 1.30am. Last weekend i tried a new method. I allowed her to watch her dvd at 9 till 10pm, then i switched off the tv and read Dr Seuss Books - while i was reading that to her, within 20 minutes she slept off---! i am not sure whether she was bored or because there was too much info that finally made her feel tired... so that was good...so now i read book to get her to sleep..she slept by 10.30- which was good for me!
And also to all the parents with special kids-- i want to share my story with you. When i was on my second trimister- my dr told me that there was something wrong wth my baby and he wanted us to do the amniocentesis test- he even advised us to terminate if the baby was abnormal...i was really shattered when i heard this....i told my husband i would never allow anyone to terminate my baby- i told my family will carry one and will not abort my baby no matter what and that i will heal my baby by myself---i always believed in MIRACLES-. I am sure everyone of us here would have heard of some miracles. Lots of people come to us and ask us weird questions like why didn't u terminate your baby ; some ask us didnt u do a test when u were pregnant to see your baby is normal--some ask me why do bring this kind of baby to the world? i just cannot understand this? why do people judge others or make such hurting allegation?
One thing that keeps me going despite all the things around me is GOD. i guess when we pray to him- he is there to guide us all the time. I, have a lot of faith in him- he appears in many form- i have experienced alot of miracles in my life because of GOD. My daughter has been blessed with perfect health despite her diagnosis and her pediatrics keep telling me - her features are changing and her development is good- in fact he was surprised that she could answer most of his questions. Few months ago, she was having some issues on her leg which was pointed outwards and the other day when we went to see the podiatrics- he was surprised he said the leg looks normal now after 4months! deep in my heart i knew it was because of god,the ayurvedic remedy that she was on and our believe that our child will be healed.
To parents with special kids, i want to share this with you- while i am at work -- i would mentally pray for my daughter..this is the verse that i use "THANK YOU GOD FOR HAVING HEALED MY DAUGHTER AND MAKING HER WHOLE AND PERFECT! " and i also use the gratitude prayer for the areas that she needs healing-- if she has problem with walking , i kept saying "TQ UNIVERSE/ GOD FOR HAVING HEALED MY DAUGHTER's LEG.....u can say any problem that your child faces. keep saying thank you - by doing this u are actually activating the positive energy and vibration this in return will manifest what u ask for!
during my lunch time, I also visualise that my baby is healthy-- i would meditate that she is walking, talking and i would ask god, angels, saints to protect her all the times from dangers and heal her condition
i also use lots of positive affirmation- tq god for blesssing me with healthy, intelligent, spiritual, normal baby.i notice when i keep using positive affirmation in my mind- my daughter reflects this.......i learned this from a healer who can be found in the website.
i am very lucky to have stumbled upon so many different saints- who taught me about life and karma. i am still learning on this issues..
i read mantra's which helps to keep our mind on positive thoughts and which removes negative karma (if we constantky chant certain mantras. you should read your own verses from the bible, al-quran or other religious books. this all good to help us to be in focus.
i am currently learning from a spiritual yogi and how can one change cells and atoms in our body. He teaches how we create disease due to our negative emotions and how we can undo this...amazing---actaully deep in my heart im 100% confident that my child will be healed- we just have to keep believing and have faith in the almightl. there is alot of things in the universe that many of us have yet to realize.
Anyways i would like to thank all the wonderful parents who share materials which helps working mother like me to use it for my daughter at home. Thank you so much for your self-less service to mankind. may god bless you all!

Hi daddude,
Thank for your opinion, her waking hours are different some days at 7.30, the other days at 8am.... i use to be worried as well since we have lots of problem to make her sleep at night...imagine we take to bed at 11pm and she woudl sit on the bed and play and then i have to switch on the tv and she watches her educational cd's then she would fall asleep on her own when her brain is tired! i must confess it is not easy for us as we are wanting her to sleep early as well.!... if u have any ideas to help her sleep early pls share with me.
i have consulted family dr and ayurvedic drs and was informed as long as she can perform daily tasks well it is alright to have lesser sleep. A few of my friends whose kids also following the same programme- doman and other teaching methods.. My friend's kid wakes up at 7.30am , does not nap at all in the afternoon and at night the parents have to force him to sleep around 12.30 to 1am- i was told by the parents sometimes they have to scold him then only he would go to bed.
i really hope that i can change her sleeping habits- even i feel so exhausted getting her to sleep at night!

HI ,
I FORGOT TO MENTION ONE MORE THING. I ALSO USE AYURVEDIC METHOD TO HELP MY DS CHILD.. I HAVE CONSULTED AYURVEDIC PRACTITIONER FROM INDIA WHO HAS GIVEN ME REMEDIES TO IMPROVE HER CONDITION.
i MUST SAY SHE HAS BEEN VERY ACTIVE AND HER MEMORY POWER IS GOOD. IMAGINE SHE WAKES UP AT 7.30am and GOES TO BED AT 12.30PM AT NIGHT! AND SHE IS VERY ACTIVE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DAY AND ONLY NAPS FOR 2 HOURS IN THE AFTERNOON.
I AM COMBINING BOTH GLENN DOMAN AND AYURVEDIC TO HELP HER. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED BY GOD BY GIVING ME NEW IDEAS OR WAYS TO TEACH MY KID. EVRYONE IS SURPRISED WITH MY DAUGHTER'S IMPROVEMENT.
SHE ACTUALLY RECOGNISED NUMBERS 1-10 AND DOTS ONE SHE WAS 2 YEARS ...AND A FEW WORDS CAT, OWL. ETC
NOW HER VOCABULARY IS INCREASING ...I AM PLANNING TO LEAVE MY JOB AND TEACH HER FULL TIME.
BLESS YOU ALL!

Hi,
tq for your inspiring story.. I am blessed with a down syndromme 2 1/2 year old child.I just got to know abt glenn doman's. i have read his book on brain injured kids- amazing- i am working full time so i am not able to do all the activities- i do it when i reach home. I use flash cards to teach her as well- and i am happy to say that she recognised all the words. She is till trying to construct sentence, hence she can only one word- car, ball, cat, apple , and she knows her numbers 1-10. I am now teaching her couplets. I also teach her large words in the book like 'WHERE IS POOH' ..She surprised us the other when i pointed at the words and she said WHERE IS POOH ...she says certain words, but other words she is still trying- i notice she tries to twist her tongue to say those words- Did you have this problems? Anyone has any idea how do i help with her speech..
I sent her to play school in the morning, i was informed by her teachers that she is very obedient only issue she does not speak well. She would only say the things that she knows.
She has motor issues- i am still working on her leg movements- she can walk fast but still can't run and cant jump. I believe she will be able to do that soon. I pray for god's miracle and healing on my child's speech and motor skills.
i am very grateful to have come to know about GLENN DOMAN's book. It gives hopes to parents!
